Position:  Librarian 1/Library Associate - Youth Services

Part Time:  20 - 25 hours per week

The Gloucester County Library System is  seeking an energetic, service-oriented professional librarian or student enrolled in a library program, who is a youth-services generalist, to serve at the GCLS Mullica Hill Library.   The successful candidate will provide high-quality programming, collection development, and information services to the community.  GCLS seeks a youth services librarian with a passion for youth services and excellent customer service and communication skills.

This is a part-time (up to 25 hours per week) position.  The position will be located at the GCLS Mullica Hill Library, 389 Wolfert Station Road, Mullica Hill, NJ  08062.  Hours include daytime hours, (2) nights per week, and weekend hours.  This is a NJ Civil Service position.

Qualifications/Requirements:

The position requires a Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution.  Students enrolled in an ALA accredited MLS program, who are at least half way through the program will also be considered for a Library Associate title, and are encouraged to apply.  The possession of a valid license as a Professional Librarian in the State of NJ, issued by the Bureau of Teacher Certification, Thomas Edison State College is required for those with an MLS degree.  A minimum of (1) year experience working in a public library setting is preferred.  Grant writing is a plus.

Very strong customer service skills and interpersonal skills are required.  The successful candidate must be a team player who is able to positively interact with coworkers and the public.  Excellent communication, leadership, technical, project management and organizational skills are a must.

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and implement a variety of innovative, regularly scheduled, and special event youth services programming, with a focus on STEAM, maker movement, emerging technologies and other trends in youth services.
  • Have the ability to work well with people, either one-on-one or in a group setting.
  • Be responsible for collection development and maintenance of branch juvenile collections to meet the needs of the community and to keep the collection current.
  • Provide professional reference and reader's advisory service.
  • Provide outreach to local schools and build partnerships with the educational community.
  • Be responsible for building operations when required.
  • Assist customers using public computers and digital services.
  • Embrace new and emerging technology through exploration and self-directed learning.
  • Attend outreach events and programs as schedule allows.
  • Assist the Youth Services Department with the planning, preparation, and execution of the system wide programming initiatives (Summer Reading Program, Maker's Day, etc.)
  • Work within the Youth Services print, nonprint and program budget lines.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities such as conference, seminars, committees, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will have the ability to accurately perform a considerable volume of duties, and to handle multiple activities and a variety of assignments.  The successful candidate will have excellent problem solving skills, with the ability to creatively resolve problems when necessary.

Experience using SirsiDynix ILS, Envisionware PC Reservation system, Library Market calendar/meeting room reservation, and Bibliotheca self-check system is desirable.  Experience in makerspace equipment such as 3D printers, virtual reality, animation studio, and other STEM related materials is also desired.

Job duties require the ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and sufficient visual discrimination to be able to read spine labels.  The position may require travel between GCLS Branch libraries.  A valid NJ Driver's License is required.

Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment physical and a criminal background check.

Librarian 1, Trenton Free Public Library - Adult Services / Youth Services February 16, 2024

The Trenton Free Public Library is expanding our staff and we are seeking full-time and part-time Librarians for both Adult and Youth Services. With a dedicated staff, a new director, a new Head of Adult Services about to start and a renovation currently taking place in the Adult Services Room this is an excellent opportunity for collaborative, self-motivated candidates to join the team. The successful candidates should have strong customer service skills, show initiative, consideration, flexibility and efficiency. Seeking candidates who will bring new ideas, energy and innovation to the Trenton Free Public Library. 

Examples of duties may include but are not limited to: provide reference assistance to patrons including with technology, program planning, collection development, displays, creating promotional materials, outreach and communications, and/or readers advisory and other tasks as assigned. Other requirements include maintaining an awareness of trends in public libraries, continued professional development and active in professional organizations.

Full-time is 35-hours per week, part-time is 19 hours per week. Schedule includes one evening per week or two as needed, and Saturdays in rotation. 

An MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited institution and a New Jersey Librarian’s Certification are required. The current salary range for the position is $60,757 - $71,963. New hires will be placed at the starting rate as per Union contract.

Part-timers are entitled to sick, vacation and personal time off but pro-rated and are entered in DCRP, retirement plan.

Job Summary:

The Linden Free Public Library is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Part-time Young Adult Librarian to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing library services to young people between the ages of 13-18; willing to travel off-site to local schools and community organizations to inform the community about library services; and dedicated to providing excellent customer service to all patrons.

This is a part-time, Civil Service (Librarian I), and Union position. The successful candidate will work approximately 25 hours a week. Scheduling is flexible, but the candidate will be required to work some evenings and Saturdays. Salary will be determined by Union contract, but will exceed NJLA minimum.   • Residency in New Jersey within one year of hiring as required by the NJ First Act.
  • Fluency in another language, especially Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Polish, is a plus.

Circulation Library Assistant (Part-time), Scotch Plains Public Library February 13, 2024

Title: Circulation Library Assistant (Part-time) Salary: $17.99/hour

Schedule

Approximately 12-19 hours per week (evening and Saturday availability is required). Weekday shifts are scheduled on a static basis. Saturday shifts are scheduled on a rotating basis.

Job Summary

  • Performs procedures related to the circulation of materials, including but not limited to check in and out of library material, collection of fees and fines, registration of library patrons, renewing library patron cards, and shelving materials.
  • Performs general reception duties including fielding in-person and on the telephone informational and directional questions from patrons.
  • Must be able to exercise judgment in public service situations and be able to multitask as needed.
  • Works effectively and courteously with the general public and other employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Possess customer service experience in a library, office, or retail environment.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows and Office products.
  • Demonstrate strong phone, keyboarding, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to learn the library’s shelving and classification systems and shelve materials alphabetically and numerically.
  • Able to bend repeatedly, place items overhead and/or below waist level and transport library materials on a cart.
