Part Time Senior Library Assistant - Outreach March 18, 2024

The Monroe Township Public Library seeks an enthusiastic candidate with strong customer service skills to work with the Outreach Department. Candidates will be required to drive all Outreach vehicles including 28’ Bookmobile and Ford Transit Van.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Circulating materials in an automated system
  • Driving the Library’s Outreach vehicles including 28’ Bookmobile and Ford Transit van 
  • Filling book requests for the Library’s At Home Services and Bookmobile Departments
  • Selecting materials to be delivered to At Home Services patrons using readers’ advisory skills
  • Assist with At Home Services home deliveries and Bookmobile stops
  • Loading and unloading materials for deliveries
  • Attend and assist at Bookmobile and Library events
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. The examples of work for this title are for illustrative purposes only. A particular position in this title may not perform all duties listed in this job specification. Conversely, all duties performed on the job may not be listed.

Qualifications 

  • Valid New Jersey Driver License with clean driving record and prior driving experience (CDL not required)
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time
  • Working knowledge of basic computer functions
  • Ability to lift and carry loads of several books in carrying totes, and push or pull a book cart
  • Candidate should expect 3 to 4 hours of driving during a normal part-time shift 
  • Must be able to work with all age populations
  • Ability to climb and descend steps while loading and unloading materials weighing up to 50 lbs

Education and Experience

  • A BA/BS degree
  • Demonstration of positive attitude for community with the public and working as part of a team
  • Computer skills, including the ability to learn routine operations of computer equipment related to Library services
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Strong customer service skills and a passion for Library service

Hours: Up to 19.5 Hours per week

Regularly scheduled hours: 

Tuesday 9AM-2PM, Thursday 9AM -2PM Friday 9AM-5PM

Occasional nights and weekends required

The Camden County Library System is seeking a librarian with strong computer training skills to provide classes in the Ferry Avenue Branch’s newly created Digital Literacy Classroom. This project was supported in full with funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the New Jersey State Library.   

Duties include but are not limited to: 

-providing adult reference services in person, by phone and via email; 

-instructing library customers how to use our catalog, databases, digital content and services; 

-collection development including purchasing, weeding, and upkeep of the assigned collection area

-developing, scheduling, and conducting a variety of in person and virtual programs for adults including creating and teaching computer training classes 

-community outreach

-assisting at the circulation desk or computer lab as needed
-performing other related duties as assigned

-may act as the Person-in-Charge of the branch or scheduled at other Library branches based on need

Education/Certification/Experience/ Requirements:

Librarian 1 requires: A Master's degree in Library or Information Sciences in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey College Master's program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College.  

Librarian 2 requires: One year of full time equivalent professional librarian experience as well as the requirements listed above. *Must posses a NJ Professional Librarian Certificate or obtain the certificate upon hiring.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

East Brunswick Public Library is looking for an Information Technology Supervisor to join our team. The candidate will work with the IT Manager of technology and related matters. Information Technology Supervisor will also manage the library local area network (LAN), firewall, routers, switches, wireless network, servers, PCs, printers and related equipment; configures and optimizes the network, diagnoses and resolves network, software and hardware problems

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY:

IT Supervisor Responsibilities:

·         Analyzing existing computer systems and making recommendations for upgrades and improvements.

·         Developing and overseeing the installation of projects, which include software and hardware.

·         Performing tests and troubleshooting, as well as quality assurance.

·         Implementing data recovery plans.

·         Collaborating with other departments and vendors in the development of IT systems.

·         Ensuring all installations, maintenance, and upgrades are completed.

·         Delegating tasks and developing budgets and work schedules.

·         Staying up-to-date with technology and ensuring the team receives refresher training as well.

·         Managing part time staff hours.

·         Contributing to purchasing and budget IT assets.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Information Technology Supervisor must have any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, or certification as a CCNA; and a minimum of two years’ experience in administering a local area network.

Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

Information Assistant March 14, 2024

Summary:

The Parsippany Library is seeking two Information Assistants to join the Information Services Department at the Main Library and the Lake Hiawatha Branch. Primary responsibilities include staffing the Information Services desk while providing support to patrons in person and over the phone with questions regarding library materials, technology, devices, equipment, etc. The Information Assistant will also coordinate group and individual study room bookings and appointments.

Information Assistant Job Description:

Job Duties:

  • Greet patrons in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Assist patrons with questions or concerns regarding the library’s catalog, materials, online resources, and events.
  • Assist patrons with computer questions, faxing, photocopying, and scanning.
  • Answer non-research ready-reference questions using the Internet, library catalog, and other resources; conduct preliminary reference interviews on research and other specialty requests and refer requests to the appropriate professional librarian.
  • Manage the booking of study rooms, including unlocking the door for patrons during their scheduled times. 
  • Provide notary service (training to be provided) and schedule notary appointments. 
  • Assist with other departments and duties as assigned. 
  • Enforce Library rules of conduct and policies with patrons.
  • Library experience or experience with MAIN a plus.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. 
  • Customer service experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with library staff and patrons in person and in writing.
  • Capacity to teach and instruct others on proper use of library equipment and services.
