Strategic Planning Update

LibraryLinkNJ, with our partners at the New Jersey State Library, is leading the process for developing a Statewide Strategic Master Plan for the Future of Libraries in New Jersey. As Mary Chute’s guest on last week’s Conversation With the State Librarian, Executive Director Cheryl O’Connor provided an overview of the Planning Process -- including information about stakeholders statewide, upcoming focus groups, and a collaborative project with schools.

Our process facilitators at Maverick and Boutique have developed an interactive mind map to document the entire process and everyone who is involved. We encourage our members to review the mind map and its attached documents, and urge you -- members from every type of library and at all levels of staff -- to share their thoughts with us. We’ve created a special e-mail address for you to send your ideas to: planning@librarylinknj.org. We look forward to hearing what you have to say!

Technology Speed-Dating Programs

It's time to set your technology life in order and begin your search for the tech of your dreams and live happily ever after!

“LibraryLinkNJ's Tech Speed Dating program was fabulous. It was one of the most productive professional workshops I have attended in recent years. I did not feel overwhelmed, and yet I left the workshop with a wealth of information and ideas to ponder. Plus, I've never walked away with so many handouts that really did their job in terms of usefulness for future exploration!” -- Kate Vasilik, Piscataway Public Library

Two dates and two locations remain! Space is limited & registrations are going fast!

  • Tuesday, March 5, 2013, Monroe Twp. Public Library (Middlesex County)
  • Wednesday, April 24, 2013, Gloucester County Library, Mullica Hill

In just three hours meet plenty of eligible technology. Step back, observe and consider. Ask yourself these questions:

  • Can I see myself living with technology for the rest of my life?
  • Do I see in these technologies such potential that I want to invest time in them?
  • Do these technologies have the character, values and goals that will foster my desire to help library users?

If you answer “yes” to any of these questions, this program is for you! Meet the right gadgets for you & your community! Learn from and with your colleagues in a relaxed, practical and fun environment!

Go to: http://librarylinknj.org/content/technology-speed-dating-programs for more information and registration.

“The Tech Speed Dating program was more successful than I could ever have imagined. Within 36 hours I was able to integrate two new technologies into my daily routine, and am now able to conduct tech support in a far more efficient manner.” -- Phillip Berg, Coordinator, BELS Consortium for School Library Media Centers

Website Update: Drupal 7 Is Coming!

Behind the scenes, we have been working very hard to upgrade the LibraryLinkNJ website, including migration to Drupal 7, the latest version of the open-source content management system that we use as a back-end system for our website. We are planning to launch the upgraded website on Thursday, January 31.

With the launch of the upgraded site, you can look forward to some great new features, including:

  • A dynamic new look, with introduction of the new LibraryLinkNJ logo
  • A more user-friendly interface
  • A Technology Exchange where members can showcase their own efforts, share resources and collaborate together on useful current and emerging technologies (launching this February)

Important Notice: From Friday, January 25 to Wednesday, January 30, librarylinknj.org will effectively be a read-only website. You will not be able to fill out any online forms during this period.

How does this affect you? You will be able to search the website and access all the information you normally do about programs, events, pilot projects and so on. On the flip side, you will not be able to register for user accounts or programs, submit forum posts or delivery statistics.

We apologize for this temporary inconvenience.

From January 25 to 30, should you need to register for programs, please call the office at 732.752.7720.

During this time, if you need immediate assistance for any other matter pertaining to the website, please contact Mi-Sun Lyu.

Fun fact: did you know that the White House website is now built on Drupal? As of December 2012, in the United States alone, more than 150 Federal websites are using Drupal as their back end, because it is so highly recommended for its strong security and flexible scalability. We’re ahead of the curve!
