Communication in a Public Library

The issue of communication is often cited when public library staff are discussing challenges of the workplace.  However, the issue is much broader than most individuals initially realize; communication can be internal or external and communication must be interactive among all staff.

This workshop will:

  • Identify styles of communication, so staff may be more effective both delivering and receiving messages.
  • Offer techniques to enhance successful communication within departments, between departments and library-wide.
  • Discuss techniques to improve communication to the public, including outside the library, whether verbally or in writing.
  • Outline techniques for resolving difficult situations with individuals, whether they are other staff or the public.
