Position Title: Adult Services Librarian (Full Time)

About the Position:

Join the management team at the Atlantic City Free Public Library as the Adult Services Librarian and help provide responsive services to our vibrant and diverse community. 

The Adult Services Librarian performs work responsibilities under the general direction of the Library Director. This position has a degree of independence and will make customer services decisions, scheduling changes, and work assignments based on library policy and best judgment. The Adult Services Librarian functions as a “person-in-charge” and has a high level of responsibility.

Major Duties:

  • Provide professional library services to the general public
  • Supervise the Circulation Department, including staff and volunteers.
  • Supervise the Richmond Branch Library
  • Responsible for adult programming, including planning, preparation, budgeting, scheduling, implementation, reporting, and assessment. 
  • Responsible for outreach and participation in community events.
  • Responsible for development of adult materials as well as coordinating the development of all collections as head of the collection development team. 
  • Promote library collections and services to the public both internally and externally
  • Evaluate community needs and identify opportunities for new programs, services, and collections. 
  • Prepare displays, exhibits, and booklists. Contribute website and social media content.
  • Attends library training, workshops, conferences and other continuing education related to adult services as approved by the Library Director.
  • Assist library patrons in finding materials, answering questions and providing reader’s advisory.

 

Qualifications:

MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited institution, two years of recent library experience and a Professional Librarian certificate issued by the State of New Jersey. Must have a valid New Jersey Driver’s License.

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of current library technologies and trends. Grant-writing experience is a plus. Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential. Students enrolled in a graduate-level library program may be considered in they have relevant experience. 

This is a full-time, 35 hours per week position. Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.
