ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Organize and keep track of outreach events and serve as the point of contact.
  • Staff community outreach events
  • Drive the library etuk (electric one seater bookmobile)
  • Provide public desk coverage at the Branch and Main Library -- circulation, reference, children, and teen desks.
  • Provide excellent customer service, which includes exhibiting a warm and welcoming demeanor
  • Assist children, parents, and adults in selecting library materials through readers advisory and programs where appropriate; assist with computer use and electronic resources.
  • Assist patrons using public computers
  • Handle patron code of conduct violations, sometimes with the assistance of the Facilities and Security staff
     

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Possession of good customer service skills, such as exhibiting warm, welcoming behaviors and practices including being tactful
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and follow up when appropriate
  • Effective communication skills to best determine the patron's actual needs and to convey accurate information to colleagues
  • High level of online skills such as Internet searches, social media, desktop applications, websites, content management systems
  • Ability to learn how to use the full resources available, including the web catalog, the library consortium (BCCLS) Information Library System (Leap), digital resources, ebooks, downloadable materials, web subject guides
  • Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers and a diverse and varied clientele
     

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS degree is preferable
  • Minimum of one year of library or customer service experience
  • Current knowledge of library trends and innovations

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

  • 18 hours with the possibility of 7 additional hours per week
  • Weekday/night schedule with some flexibility, weekend availability is a must

SALARY

  • $17.37 per hour
