Passport Acceptance Agent - Plainsboro Free Public Library March 21, 2024

JOB OPENING:  Part-time Passport Acceptance Agent 

Plainsboro Public Library seeks an energetic and self- motivated Passport Acceptance Agent to become part of our new Passport Acceptance Services department.  The ideal candidate will provide friendly, high quality customer service to patrons of all ages at the Passport Desk.  A Passport Agent is responsible for accepting passport applications on behalf of the Department of State. The Agent verifies that the documents presented fulfill federal requirements, ensures the application is completed correctly, and answers customer questions. The Agent will also be required to take passport photos and fulfill general clerical tasks as assigned. 

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

● Memorization of extensive Department of State rules and regulations; 

● Complete web-based training; ● Remain detail-oriented under pressure; 

● Provide excellent customer service; 

● Communicate effectively with customers; 

● Complete clerical tasks online and using Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word; 

● Operate equipment such as the fax, scanner, copier and passport photo camera; 

● maintain effective working relationships with associates and customers. Education and experience:  Education and Experience Computer skills required. Previous customer service experience preferred. Passport application acceptance agents per Department of State requirements must: 

● Be a United States citizen age 18 or older; 

● Be free of any federal or state felony convictions; 

● Be free of any misdemeanor conviction for crimes relating to breach of trust or moral turpitude, i.e., embezzlement, identity theft, misappropriation, document fraud, drug offense, or dishonesty in carrying out a responsibility involving public trust; and 

● Not be on parole or probation relating to any federal or state convictions. 

10-18 hours/week Schedule: 10 hours per week, includes some evening and weekend hours. Possibility of seasonal increases to hours. 

Salary:  $18.00 per hour

Schedule:             35 hours per week - Based on library needs and will include days, evenings & weekends

PT Library Assistant March 19, 2024

The Montville Township Public Library located in northern Morris County (I-80/I-287) has an opening for a part-time Library Assistant position in the Circulation Department.

We are seeking a candidate who is able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and fill-in hours as needed for an approximate schedule of 15-25 hours weekly.

The successful applicant must be dependable, be able to provide excellent customer service, be a team-player, task-oriented, friendly, and have basic computer skills.

Responsibilities will include a full range of duties in the Circulation Department which includes Circulation and Technical Processing.  The successful candidate must exhibit the ability to deal tactfully and respectfully with the public and work effectively with colleagues and supervisors. The position requires lifting, bending, pushing and pulling Library book carts and carrying library materials from the book drops.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Work experience including some Library work experience is a plus. Computer skills are essential. Salary is $17.95 per hour.  

The Montville Township Public Library is covered by Civil Service regulations and staff is represented by the IFPTE Union. Part Time Librarian 1, West Windsor Branch, Mercer County Library System March 19, 2024

Please accept this as notification of the anticipated vacancy of the position of Part Time Librarian I at the West Windsor Branch, Mercer County Library System.  This 19 hour per week position during the school year requires the following schedule, Saturday 9-5, Sunday 12-5, and Monday 12:30-8:30. In the summer the Sunday hours shift to Friday.

The successful candidate should be enthusiastic, forward thinking, resourceful, flexible, efficient, conscientious, and detail-oriented.  The candidate should have excellent communication and customer service skills, exhibit friendly professionalism, be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously, contribute new ideas that will help the branch to better serve its community, and provide outstanding reference service. 

The candidate will be expected to create/facilitate adult programming for a diverse public; assist the Virtual Programming Coordinator in discovering, scheduling and facilitating virtual programming; market programs and library services; and do outreach to the community.

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Searching the library catalog and locating library materials;
  • Accessing databases/other reference materials and demonstrating their use to patrons;
  • Answering reference questions presented in person, electronically, and by telephone;
  • Using a computer, scanner, copier, projector, and microfilm equipment;
  • Providing one-on-one technology sessions;
  • Providing readers’ advisory services and selecting library materials;
  • Contributing posts to the library blog and other library social media opportunities
  • Maintaining the library collections;
  • Assisting patrons in the operation of computers and computer software and providing appropriate instruction when needed;
  • Creating and providing publicity and programming, both in and outside the branch;
  • Participating in outreach activities to include physical outreach and participation in the library’s social media platforms, as well as writing posts for the blog.
  • Willingness to become a notary is desirable, because the branch has demand for notaries on the weekend.

Familiarity with the library system’s resources and social media platforms, including the website, prior to applying is strongly encouraged. Knowledge of current library technologies and the ability to use the library’s automated system, online resources, mobile applications, and Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel is a must.  This position requires an MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA accredited institution and a NJ Librarian’s Certification. Students enrolled in an MLS program with a significant amount of coursework completed may also be considered.

This position requires Mercer County residency. A full job description can be found on the State of New Jersey Civil Service Commission website. This title is covered under AFSCME local 3566.  The current salary range for the position is $23.1590 to $37.4038 per hour. Once certified into a permanent title, part time employees earn sick and vacation time, and are eligible to receive holiday pay. The Moorestown Library in Moorestown, NJ is seeking an enthusiastic individual to provide excellent customer service in the position of Library Assistant.  

DESCRIPTION:

This is a part-time, 12 hour per week position including one evening a week and up to 3 Saturdays and 1 Sunday a month.  

HOURS: 

1 Weekday evening:  5-9 PM

3 Saturdays/month: 9 AM - 5 PM 

1 Sunday/month: 12:30 PM – 5 PM

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

  • Answers phone and routes calls accordingly.
  • Welcomes patrons entering the library.
  • Registers new patrons, updates cards, and renews expired library cards.
  • Checks material in/out.
  • Assists patrons with information requests and/or finding material.
  • Fields reference & assistance questions to appropriate staff.
  • Handles basic math calculations with precision; collects donations and fees.
  • Shelves returned materials
  • Manages requests/holds

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior library experience preferred
  • High School diploma required
  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Customer-focused: warm, friendly, helpful, courteous, and energetic with a positive attitude
  • Able to lift books, stand, shelve on low and high shelves
