Event Description

Street lit—gritty stories about daily life, relationships, and survival in poor, urban neighborhoods—is a popular and powerful genre that libraries cannot afford to ignore. This workshop lays out the characteristics of street lit as a genre, explores why teen readers gravitate toward street lit books, and helps participants plan collections, services, and advocacy that support the needs of teens who read street lit.

After Attending This Webinar, Participants Will Be Able To:

  • Define characteristics and appeals of street lit as a genre
  • Articulate the importance of street lit to teen readers
  • Develop strategies for meeting teen street lit readers' needs in any library
