Do what you love and make a difference in a library where you can make things happen.  Library of the Chathams invites imaginative, enthusiastic and collaborative Librarians with a robust sense of humor to apply for our Assistant Library Director position.

Success in this position is being an approachable relationship-builder who easily develops trust and rapport, and maintains effective communications with the staff, public, government partners, community organizations, groups, and individuals to promote positive public relations.

Our Library is different from municipal libraries. We are a joint library serving the residents of Chatham Borough and Chatham Township. Being a joint library brings the opportunity to learn administration operations and functions that are normally only provided to town administrators and mayors.

You will have overarching responsibilities for the day-to-day running of the library.  Facing difficult situations, making decisions and doing what it takes to support and empower the staff while ensuring a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone is quintessential.

The position comes with participation in the State Health Benefit program, enrollment in PERS, paid vacation, sick and personal days, and holidays. You will have support for continued learning and a starting salary in the $90’s.

Requirements: Master’s Degree in library science and three (3) years of library experience including work in a public service area required with at least one (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity in any industry. Proven record of administrative competence, ability to meet deadlines, and willingness to do whatever it takes to get a job done.
