The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise a staff of 5 to include annual performance evaluations, recruitment, training and scheduling
  • Create, plan, and implement children & teen programs, Summer and Winter Reading Programs, story times and special events
  • Curate, purchase and maintain all juvenile and young adult print and media collections
  • Represent the Library at Borough events and expand partnerships with the schools, municipality and other appropriate organizations
  • Provide assistance and readers advisory to children, caregivers, homeschoolers and educators
  • Encourage digital literacy and provide age-appropriate technology instruction to children and teens
  • Attend workshops for continuing education, learning about library trends and emerging technologies
  • Participation in the Passport Agent Acceptance rotation
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited program
  • Two years’ experience as a public services librarian including supervisory responsibilities
  • Demonstrated capacity to deal tactfully and courteously with the public
  • Individuals who speak multiple languages are strongly encouraged to apply

Knowledge/Proficiencies:

  • Ability to work independently and manage numerous diverse tasks
  • Strong technology skills and presentation skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Passion for and ability to serve people of diverse backgrounds
  • Desire to work in a team-centered environment

Compensation:
Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience with full benefits and generous paid time off package. This is a union and civil service position and is subject to provisional appointment.

Schedule:
The schedule for this position is 35 hours per week, including a regular evening and weekend coverage on a rotating basis.

If hired, the applicant must be in compliance with the residency requirements of the New Jersey First Act within one year of the date of hire and must participate in the NJ PERS retirement system.
