SCHEDULE:
20 hours per week: Saturday 8am-1pm, Sunday 11am-6pm, Monday and Tuesday 6pm - 10pm
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Custodian coordinates tasks with the cleaning crew and supervisor; cleans the library building; maintains the security of the building when closed to the public and closes and secures the building at closing and opening time.
TYPICAL TASKS INCLUDE:
• Performing basic maintenance, repair and/or adjustment of building equipment and systems
• Dusting and cleaning chairs, tables, shelves and other furniture or equipment
• Washing windows and walls including bathroom tile walls
• Vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, waxing floors and shampooing carpets
• Gathering and disposing of refuse and recycling
• Polishing furniture and desks
• Scrubbing and cleaning restrooms including mirrors, wash basins, urinals, commodes, etc.
• Filling tissue, towel and soap dispensers
• Supplying paper for photocopy machines; storing boxes of paper
• Disposing of discarded books
• Preparing rooms for meetings
• Loading and unloading delivery trucks, and delivering materials to proper department
• Obtaining supplies for and stocking vending machines
• Advising library users that the library is closing
• Closing the library; shutting off lights; setting alarms and locking doors
• Ensuring building security when closed to the public
• Performing related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
⦁ Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment;
⦁ Recognize and diagnose electrical and plumbing problems; supervise the work of others
⦁ Understand and follow oral and written directions;
⦁ Perform manual work
⦁ Establish and maintain effective working relationships with
associates and customers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Custodian must have any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in building maintenance and repair including some supervisory experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
A Custodian is required to possess a valid appropriate driver's license issued by the State of New Jersey.
CONDITIONS OF WORK:
A Custodian performs medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and atmospheric conditions

The East Orange Public Library (EOPL)--located at the center of the vibrant, diverse community of East Orange--is looking for a qualified candidate to write grants and oversee the marketing of its programs and services. 

The Grant Writer & Community Engagement Coordinator reports to Library Administration and will identify, define and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities as well as lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies. 

Primary responsibilities include preparation of proposals and grant applications, and performance of responsible professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing and responding to public and private grant opportunities in areas that support East Orange Public Library programs.

The position is also responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on the performance of program activities that are funded by federal, state, and private funding agencies.

In addition, this position is directly responsible for marketing and publicity of services and programs, such as creating press releases, PowerPoint presentations, social media campaigns, flyers, signage, image branding, website updates, and performing other work as assigned. 

Experience and expertise in the creation of marketing and publicity materials utilizing computer software (Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Publisher, Canva, Constant Contact, etc.) is necessary. Knowledge of social media marketing practices highly desirable. Experience in a public library or related non-profit is preferred.

  • Generates revenues for EOPL programs through timely submission of well-researched, well written and well-documented grant proposals.
  • Maintains primary responsibility for grant schedules and tracking grants.
  • Serves as a liaison to all funding agencies and organizations.
  • Works with appropriate personnel to research, develop, write and submit letters of inquiry, concept papers and grant proposals.
  • Coordinates and follows-up on the progress of submitted proposals.
  • Coordinates with the Library Budget Officer to create expenditure and income budgets to accompany proposals.

Applicants must interact effectively with staff and the public in a professional and positive manner and have excellent interpersonal and communications skills. The successful candidate for this position must be available to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours as required. Librarian I (Youth Programming) Position at East Orange Public Library February 29, 2024

The East Orange Public Library (EOPL) is seeking an enthusiastic professional to support the vision of a busy multicultural urban library that is dedicated to making a difference in the community.  We value diversity, initiative, creativity, flexibility, teamwork and are committed to service excellence. 

This is a great opportunity for a self-motivated and enthusiastic professional who loves working with the public. Position includes evenings and Saturdays. 37 ½ hour work week.

The Children’s Department is seeking an enthusiastic, community-oriented, and innovative librarian with strong customer service skills to join our team. Under the supervision of the Head of Children’s Services, the youth programming librarian will be responsible for providing supervision of staff,  reference, readers’ advisory, programming, and technology assistance to children and their caregivers. We are looking for someone with a passion for programming, outreach, and working with youth. Experience with STEM programming, virtual library services, and knowledge of current library trends is highly desired. This position is 37 ½ hours per week, including at least one evening per week and  at least one Saturday per month.   Also, expected to work and may be assigned to other departments in the library or other branch locations based on library needs.

  • Plan and implement virtual, Grab & Go, and in-person (when appropriate) 
    children’s programs for birth through seventh graders including tweens.

Adult Services Librarian Part-Time February 28, 2024

Description: 

The Adult Services Part-Time Librarian is responsible for reference and customer service to all ages at both the Kennedy and Westergard Libraries. The Adult Services Department embraces a team approach to support outreach and special projects. 

Responsibilities:

  • Offering assistance to effectively meet the informational needs of users of all ages, by providing reference, readers’ advisory, and computer support while employing a welcoming demeanor 
  • Participates in the formulation, development, and completion of departmental and library-wide objectives
  • Provides instruction on information literacy and technology skills to individuals, visiting groups, and classes as required

Qualifications:

Compensation:

Part Time Adult Services Librarian at Pequannock Library February 26, 2024

The Pequannock Township Public Library has an opening for an exciting opportunity in our Adult Services department. Our well-loved and very busy library is located in a suburban community. 

We’re seeking a forward thinking, enthusiastic, customer service oriented person who thrives in a collaborative environment, to work at our Adult Services information desk.   The right candidate will have public library experience and be familiar with current technologies. Tasks include covering the Adult Services Desk, assisting with adult programming, and assisting with public relations responsibilities.  Plus, other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications include an MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited institution and a NJ Professional Librarian Certification or 3 years’ experience in a public library setting. We will also consider a student currently enrolled in an ALA accredited MLIS program. Candidates must have the ability to work effectively with the public and the staff. Experience with Polaris ILS system is a plus. Preference will be given to someone with adult programming experience and digital marketing skills.
