DESCRIPTION 

The Burlington County Library seeks a detail-oriented self-starter to serve as the Executive Assistant to the Library Director. The individual will provide high-level administrative and operational support, including managing Library Commission meetings. Some examples of duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Manage monthly Library Commission meetings, including posting public notices, creating meeting agendas, coordinating with Commissioners, and preparing meeting support documents.
  • Attend Library Commission meetings, take notes, and coordinate actions to be taken post-meeting.
  • Work directly with Director’s calendar, including scheduling meetings, appointments, and other commitments, including off-site and virtual.
  • Prepare and manage correspondence.
  • Exercise discretion in committing time and evaluating needs for Director and Library Commission. 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information related to the library and its employees.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritize, make decisions, and exhibit sound judgement.
  • Be comfortable interacting with leadership and stakeholders, both within the organization and with outside partners.
  • Be a team player, capable of cultivating productive working relationships across the library and with partners.
  • Excellent computer skills; preferred experience using Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Google Suite, and other productivity tools.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Experience in developing internal processes and organizational systems. 

SCHEDULE 

25 hours per week. Monday-Friday 8:30am – 1:30pm, with occasional flexibility for evenings and weekends.

Librarian I - Adult Services, Cherry Hill Public Library January 31, 2024

About the Position: 

The Cherry Hill Public Library is seeking to hire a creative, well-read librarian for the Reference & Adult Services Department. We are a state-of-the-art library in a thriving and diverse suburban community. The successful candidate will be a responsible and energetic individual ready to keep up within a busy department. 

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

• Initiate and participate in departmental programming and services such as (but not limited to) the Librarian by Appointment service, our Community Conversations program series, monthly Book Club, and other stand-alone events. 

• Selecting adult fiction and/or non-fiction material as part of the collection development group. • Staffing the adult Reference Desk as scheduled. 

• Serve as coordinator of the Adult Summer Reading Program. 

• Work with other staff to coordinate the Seed Library. 

• Research, identify, apply, and manage grants that create or support library mission, materials, and services. 

• Manage various aspects of the CHPL website and assist in running collection reports. 

Knowledge and Abilities: 

• Knowledge of current trends and practices in adult services, literature and materials. 

• Familiarity with serving adults of all abilities. 

• Ability to understand and apply library filing and classification systems. 

• Physical stamina is required to put away materials, push and pull loaded book carts and other library equipment and materials. Physical activity includes, but is not limited to, prolonged periods of sitting as well as periods of standing, mobility, stretching, bending and stooping. 

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. 

• Knowledge of Koha ILS a plus. Ability to learn the library POS systems: Koha, SAM, Tech Logic, and others. 

• Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues, librarians, supervisors and with adult and juvenile patrons of the library. 

• Ability to understand the importance of following established procedures and regulations. 

• Ability to work and perform tasks without supervision. 

Qualifications: 

• Must have a master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university 

• Experience providing reference and reader’s advisory services 

• Strong communication and customer service skills 

• Knowledge of print and digital general knowledge resources 

• Ability to work both independently and within a team 

• Teaching or computer instruction experience a plus 

• Strong technology skills and general comfort with learning new technology 

• Knowledge of Koha ILS a plus

Schedule: This is a full time (35 hours a week) position with one weeknight and rotating Saturdays and Sundays required. 

About the Library: The Cherry Hill Public Library is the largest municipal library in the southern New Jersey area. Librarian 1 - New Jersey State Library Information Center January 30, 2024

The New Jersey State Library Information Center is seeking a service-oriented librarian, with a strong commitment to information organization and access, to join the Technical Services unit.  This is a union represented, entry level position and is ideal for a new librarian with great tech skills.   Primary responsibilities include original and copy cataloging using Horizon, OCLC, MarcEdit and other tools as needed; creating authority records; and working with MARC metadata in all formats as needed to support the New Jersey State Library’s collections. Responsibilities will also include, but are not limited to, uploading digitized items to the appropriate repositories, and adding and updating content on the Library’s web pages. The person in this position may also work with a team to develop research guides; create and present webinars, tutorials, and classes on library resources and services; conduct library tours; promote library services and collections; and participate in other special projects as assigned. This position involves working collaboratively with staff from other units.

Responsibilities:

-Performs original and complex copy cataloging using Horizon, OCLC, MarcEdit, RDA, LCSH, LCC, and other tools as needed. Works with MARC metadata in all formats and subjects as needed to support the New Jersey State Library’s collections

-Creates authority records at the national level

-Manages bibliographic authority control processes using Horizon, DSpace, OCLC, and other tools as needed to ensure the internal consistency of the Libraries’ bibliographic databases and digital repository platforms.

-Oversees quality control for bibliographic and authority metadata. Analyzes potential corrections and executes batch changes to manage and update bibliographic, holdings, and item data

-Maintains knowledge of current and emerging issues and trends in identity management and authority metadata, including linked data, BIBFRAME, and semantic web developments

-Creates and maintains documentation for areas of responsibility

-Participates in appropriate professional development, continuing education, national-level professional service, or research activities

-Performs related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

 

-Master's degree in librarianship, or related field

-Familiarity with the processes of creating bibliographic and authority metadata

-Familiarity with metadata format and content standards, including RDA and MARC21

-Familiarity with authority control processes

-Knowledge of current trends in metadata and cataloging standards and technologies

-Awareness of and interest in emerging technologies, including linked data

This is an entry level, union represented position.  Working under close supervision, the library assistant will perform routine non-professional library work of a varied nature directly related to the circulation of library materials, shelving and collection maintenance as well as other related work as required.

 Examples of Work:

 -Using the library’s integrated library system, registers new borrowers; updates and renews borrower accounts; checks out, returns and renews circulating materials for customers

-Explains library circulation policies to visitors and callers

-Shelves and shifts books and other library materials as required 

-Collects and records fines; balances cash drawer

-Checks simple entries (ex. author and/or title) in library catalog in order to respond to patron queries

-Collects data for statistical reports

-Maintains essential records and files

-Digitally scan books, reports, files and other materials as assigned as part of digitization projects or to support patron requests from within unique library collections

Requirements:

Physical Demands: The ability to lift 10 pounds and to push or pull book carts weighing 40 pounds, retrieve and return library materials to shelves, and hold and carry library materials.

The Camden County Library System is seeking a dynamic IT professional to develop, plan, and organize both hardware and software used by Library staff and its patrons at all eight locations. The Principal Technician will be involved with project management, implementation, configuration, administration, and complex testing and troubleshooting.     

Some examples of projects include: 

  1. A systemwide Windows 11 migration
  2. Website, Library App, and intranet development and testing 
  3. PC management and print release management migration
  4. Wireless network management redesign and upgrade
  5. Network refresh and hardening including, server installs, core and edge switches, etc.
  6. Helpdesk migration and building a systemwide inventory database.     

You might be a good fit if you have experience with a combination of the following:

  1. Physical/Virtual server environments, server backup, and or managed switches and routers
  2. Active Directory/Group Policy, Exchange, and or Microsoft 365 Admin Portal/Azure
  3. VoIP Phone Systems, Door Access Systems, and or Security/Burg Systems 
  4. MFA/2FA, SSO, and or EDR/MDR 
  5. Open-source software, programming languages, and or customized coding
  6. Adobe Suite, Mac/iOS, and or Google Admin Console/Chrome OS
  7. Database management using Excel, Access, and or SQL 
  8. Effectively train departmental and general Library staff and be able to create training documents and tutorials.

This can be a physical job at times, requiring the ability to lift 50-80lbs, crawl in tight spaces, use ladders, etc. 

REQUIREMENTS: Education and experience

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree and Two (2) years of full time equivalent experience utilizing or implementing electronic information systems, analyzing information systems and/or developing procedures for the use of information systems, or providing user support and solving user problems in a help desk or related environment.

NOTE1: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional experience as indicated above on a year-for-year basis.

NOTE2: A Bachelor's degree in a computer-related area may be substituted for one (1) year of the experience as indicated above.

Part-Time Youth Services Library Assistant January 29, 2024

Part-Time Youth Services Library Assistant

The Wallington Public Library is seeking a part-time Youth Services Library Assistant. The Youth Services Library Assistant is responsible for the planning, implementing, promoting, running and evaluation of all youth programming and events. The principal duties of the position are performed in the library and in the community. The Youth Services Library Assistant reports to the Library Director. 

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Creates, promotes, and executes extensive youth programming and events including, but not limited to: storytimes, crafts, book clubs, summer reading programs and performers.
  • Assists patrons, in particular children and teens, with using the library and its resources, reference questions, reader’s advisory and other library services.
  • Provides circulation desk assistance
  • Oversees the teen volunteer program including training and scheduling.
  • Attends workshops, conferences, webinars, and programs and participates in professional library organizations that pertain to youth library services.
  • Serves as liaison to local public schools and youth organizations
  • Assists with the maintenance of the Library’s website and social media accounts, especially as they pertain to the promotion of youth programming and events.
  • Prepares statistical and narrative reports and evaluations for the Library Director.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a minimum of one year experience in a library or customer -centric retail or youth service setting, possess excellent customer service skills and enjoy interacting with a varied clientele in a busy environment. Proficiency with computers is expected. Experience with BCCLS systems is preferred but not required. Must be able to perform light lifting and bending.

Schedule:

  • 25 - 29 hours per week.
  • 1 Saturday (10-4) every three to four weeks.
  • Flexible work schedule including some nights and coverage as needed.

Salary: $18.00 - $26.00 per hour commensurate with education and experience.

Part-time Library Assistant, Clark Public Library January 25, 2024

Job Description:  Part-Time Library Assistant

Part-time, 20 hours per week.

The Clark Public Library is hiring a part-time LIBRARY ASSISTANT. This position will be part-time with a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings and one weekend rotation a month. Applicants must be available to work various shifts. Hours total of 20 per week. Must be available to work at least a 4-hour shift between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. Hours will vary when the weekend shift occurs.  Position includes leave time benefits.

Duties include:  

  • Circulation desk service to visitors of all ages (greet, check-in, check-out, registration, etc.).
  • Answer phones and forward calls to appropriate recipients as needed.
  • Assist patrons with general directional questions within the library.
  • Applicants must have the ability to shelf books alphabetically and by Dewey Decimal System. Check shelves to ensure materials are filed properly. Locate material based on call number. Perform searches for material not in its proper location.
  • Prepare library materials for circulation/use.
  • Assist patrons with public photocopiers and printers as needed.
  • Must be able to exercise judgment and enforce policy in situations relevant to the position and in public service situations. 
  • Perform several jobs simultaneously.
  • Works effectively and courteously with the general public and other employees.
  • Provide excellent customer service under all circumstances.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Performs procedures related to circulation of materials, including check-in and out of library material, collection of fees and fines and registration of library members.
  • Processes new library material and performs basic repairs to damaged library material. 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Open to New Jersey residents only.
  • Able to operate a computer, phone, library software, a web browser, and an e-mail interface.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office products required.
  • Keyboarding skills required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Fluency in English.
  • Ability to follow directions and procedures with accuracy and attention to detail.

Compensation:  This position is represented by Union Council No. 8, New Jersey Civil Service Association, IFPTE, AFL-CIO and is ranked at the position of Library Assistant by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission. Starting salary is based on Union Council 8 contract.
