I'm incredibly grateful to have had many wide-ranging opportunities to advance the mission of libraries across positions and organizations. With over 27 years in the profession, it’s been an incredible experience. I’m thankful for the advice and support of my own mentors, and it’s extremely important to me that individuals now entering the profession find the opportunities that match their interests and allow them to achieve personal satisfaction.
Since 1992, I’ve shelved books, worked circulation, supervised staff, offered children’s story times, managed a branch reference collection, led branch programming, assisted history researchers, developed and coordinated a statewide virtual reference service, directed a regional library, supervised grants and budgets, managed public services, led teams and workgroups, coordinated strategic planning, and handled innumerable other responsibilities along the way. My positions have all been in Maryland, across Baltimore County Public Library, Enoch Pratt Free Library, Western Maryland Regional Library, Harford County Public Library, and Carroll County Public Library. Professionally I’ve had the great opportunity to serve as President of both the Maryland Library Association (2018-2019) and the Reference and User Services Association [RUSA] (2014-2015). I’ve been involved in conference programming, presentations, leadership institutes, and library advocacy efforts.
