PROGRAMMING AND OUTREACH SPECIALIST
[Part-Time, At Will] 

LibraryLinkNJ, the New Jersey Library Cooperative, is seeking a part-time Programming and Outreach Specialist to work as part of the Cooperative’s Continuing Education (CE) Team on its programming and outreach initiatives. 

LibraryLinkNJ is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Its members are multi-type libraries and library-related agencies located in the twenty-one counties of New Jersey. The Cooperative has over 1,300 voting representatives from over 2,400 public and private schools, public, academic, institutional, corporate, health sciences and special libraries and library-related agencies. A member-elected Executive Board meets regularly to oversee the programs and services of the organization. LibraryLinkNJ and its services are funded by the New Jersey State Library, which is responsible for the coordination, promotion and funding of the New Jersey Library Network. Under the supervision of the Programming and Outreach Manager, the Programming and Outreach Specialist develops, facilitates, promotes, evaluates, and executes a dynamic array of programs and services to the members of LibraryLinkNJ in close coordination with other LLNJ Continuing Education (CE) Team members. This individual must stay abreast with current and emerging trends to provide input to the coordination of statewide continuing education opportunities for library workers. The position is at will and part-time (typically 21 hours per week).

Programming and Outreach Specialist Position Responsibilities 

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Works as part of the CE Team to identify and prioritize needs for training and professional development and advisory services.
  • Works actively to promote LibraryLinkNJ and provide strong customer service to the members of LibraryLinkNJ.
  • Designs, implements and sponsors innovative programs, presentations, workshops, webinars, and participatory experiences that provide opportunities for continuing education to members of multi-type library organizations throughout the state.
  • Aligns programs with LibraryLinkNJ’s strategic goals and with identified interests, and needs within the state.
  • Builds relationships and networks with internal and external partners to fulfill the organization’s mission.
  • Identifies opportunities to collaborate with other LibraryLinkNJ staff members, members, vendors/contractors, partners, stakeholders and other organizations and works successfully with them toward a desired outcome.
  • Draws upon statewide resources and solicits local talent to develop and co-sponsor programs.
  • Evaluates programs using appropriate evaluation strategies (evaluation forms, surveys, input from program participants and partners, observations, etc.) and uses results to improve upon programming efforts.
  • Works with the Programming and Outreach Manager, partners, and vendors as part of CE team staff to ensure delivery of high-quality member services and programs.
  • Monitors expenditures, tracking costs for programming and materials. 

Related Duties: 

  • Uses traditional media outlets, modern technologies and other innovative tools/media to promote services and programs.
  • Represents LibraryLinkNJ to partner organizations such as the New Jersey State Library and the New Jersey Library Association as assigned.
  • Manages or supports special projects as needed, typically related to continuing education, such as the Super Library Supervisor and Skill-Sharing programs.
  • Participates in planning processes regarding continuing education, pilot projects, future organizational strategic initiatives and other LibraryLinkNJ and statewide initiatives.
  • Coordinates the work of members involved in programs.
  • Works collaboratively with other LibraryLinkNJ staff members, as well as LibraryLinkNJ members and partners to generate program ideas and coordinate development.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications and Experience 

Education, Skills and Experience: 

  • Master of Library Science degree from a library school accredited by the American Library Association is preferred. Bachelor's degree in education, communications or another relevant field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • Three (3) or more years of recent work experience in a library is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in program planning and presentation--both in-person and virtual.
  • Understanding of current and emerging library services and trends; and ability to consult with others on these topics.
  • Ability to collaborate with individuals and groups, including other LLNJ staff, LLNJ members, partners, library personnel, vendors/contractors, and stakeholders both individually and in groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal, written and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Proven strong customer-service orientation.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to initiate, organize and work independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office applications, Google Workspace, Zoom, and a variety of Web and social networking tools and mobile devices.
  • Experience working in or with different types of libraries and/or cultural institutions with all levels of library staff is desired.
  • Leadership and/or experience in library consortia and/or statewide services is desired. 

Job Requirements: 

The position requires light to moderate physical effort, demanded when performing functions under typical office and computer-use conditions. 

Must be eligible for permanent employment in the United States with documentation for Form I-9 of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. 

The Programming and Outreach Specialist will be required to follow all of LibraryLinkNJ’s policies.

Work Schedule and Location: 

The work week is up to 21 hours, assigned in the best interest of the organization. Hours may vary. This part-time position requires a regular physical presence in the LibraryLinkNJ office at least one day per week for 7 hours with the opportunity to work remotely based on the needs of the organization and at the discretion of the Executive Director. This position may require travel to meetings and programs throughout the state.

Salary: $27.95 - $36.17 per hour depending on qualifications and experience

The Programming and Outreach Specialist is an “at-will” employee. Under “at-will” employment, the  Programming and Outreach Specialist is free to resign at any time, for any reason, with or without cause or notice. Similarly, LibraryLinkNJ is free to conclude its employment of the Programming and Outreach Specialist at any time. The “at-will” employment status cannot be modified or amended except by written agreement signed by both the Programming and Outreach Specialist and a representative of LibraryLinkNJ.
