The Free Library of Monroe Township in Gloucester County seeks an entry-level energetic enthusiastic part-time Children’s Librarian that is dedicated to providing educational, professional, cultural and recreational information and services. The Monroe Library is a small to medium-sized library with a close-knit staff hoping to procure a creative, inspired and dedicated Children’s Librarian. The ideal candidate must be able to work with all age groups and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. A successful candidate will be proficient in utilizing standard reference materials and electronic resources as well as be able to assist users in using all types of technology including but not limited to PCs, tablets, e-books and social media.
The Children’s Librarian chosen for this position will take on a role that involves developing and executing some educational, inspiring and fun Children Services programming including but not limited too weekly storytimes. It is expected that they will participate in the Summer Reading Program and corresponding activities as well as develop community ties through outreach to local schools. The librarian will be expected to maintain the Children’s and Juvenile collections through acquisitions and weeding. The Monroe Library is looking for a Children’s Librarian dedicated to marketing and promoting their programs by writing and designing eye-catching and innovative publicity including event flyers, promotional materials, signage, social media posts, and electronic newsletters.
The Children’s Librarian should be a detail oriented person as they are to take on a role in Cataloging using SirsiDynix Symphony WorkFlows- the library will provide detailed training and instructions. Duties will include maintaining the catalog (add, delete, modify records) and attending consortium meetings as the library’s representative as well as staying abreast of all system changes.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (or equivalent) from an ALA accredited program and New Jersey Professional Librarian’s Certificate are preferred. Consideration will be given to currently enrolled MLS students for the Information Assistant/Library Associate title.
- NJ Librarian Certification.
- New Jersey residency.
