DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS - Somerset County Library System of New Jersey

This executive-level position develops and implements comprehensive branding, marketing,
and communication strategies that spotlight the Library as a key community resource. 

The Director of Marketing and Public Relations at SCLSNJ leads a dynamic and award-winning team responsible for
shaping the library’s brand identity and promoting its diverse array of resources, programs, and services
virtually and across ten branches and fifteen-member communities throughout Somerset County through a mix of traditional and social media outreach.  This is not a remote or hybrid position.

SALARY: $123,689  / 37.5 hours per week  

Key responsibilities include developing and executing innovative marketing campaigns and strategies that
generate excitement for SCLSNJ’s programs and services, overseeing all aspects of the Library’s
branding, and public relations efforts, including media relations, crisis communication, community outreach,
and cutting-edge digital marketing strategies. This position also collaborates with library leadership to

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing the provision of marketing and public relations services
for SCLSNJ; identifying, implementing, and developing goals for system-wide communication efforts in support
of the SCLSNJ strategic plan, community needs, and trends in library service; working in cooperation with the
SCLSNJ Executive Team regarding system initiatives, programs, and services; communicating SCLSNJ
mission, vision, goals, values, and initiatives directly to staff, customers, government officials, press sources,
advisory/foundation boards, and the general public; ensuring all content provides a high degree of consistent
quality, tone, and professionalism across all SCLSNJ communications; submitting budget requests and
proposals for services and projects; being responsible for staying within budgetary guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or a comparable field and a minimum
of ten (10) years of full-time progressively responsible management including supervision of staff or any
equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the Creative Suite especially expert-level skills in Adobe Photoshop,
Illustrator, Indesign; as well as expert proficiency in WordPress, Basecamp, Canva, Mailchimp, and Google
for Work or equivalent with the ability to quickly learn new programs and develop proficiency. Must reside
in the State of New Jersey within one year of starting employment unless exempted by law. Valid driver’s
license or ability to attend training or meetings at other branches or off-site locations as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to hear and talk; ability to operate a personal computer and keyboard, projectors, printers, and other
office equipment; reading materials and providing verbal assistance to library users in English; ability to
sit, walk, stand, bend, kneel, and reach as required by the position.
