Full Time Adult Services Librarian - Spotswood Public Library

The Spotswood Public Library seeks an enthusiastic Adult Services Librarian to lead adult programming, outreach, reference services, and collection development in our small, community-centered library. This full-time role requires collaboration, initiative, and a strong commitment to public service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, schedule, and lead engaging programs for adults.
  • Build partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community groups to expand program offerings and reach new patrons.
  • Select, evaluate, and maintain adult fiction and nonfiction materials in a variety of formats.
  • Analyze available metrics and track usage trends to inform purchasing and weeding decisions.
  • Provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance with reference questions, research needs, and reader’s advisory.
  • Assist patrons with technology, including computers, e-resources, printing, and mobile devices.
  • Work alongside public service desk staff to ensure a welcoming, inclusive environment for all visitors.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Masters in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • NJ Professional Librarian’s certificate issued by Thomas Edison State University.
  • Strong customer-service skills and a passion for community engagement.
  • Ability to plan and lead programs for adults.
  • Proficiency with common software, digital resources, and emerging technologies.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
  • Must reside in New Jersey in order to comply with New Jersey First Act.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a public library setting.
  • Knowledge of collection development practices.
  • Familiarity with Polaris Leap and/or STELLA library consortium.

Work Environment & Schedule:

  • Small library setting with collaborative staff culture.
  • 35 working hours per week - may require evening or weekend hours depending on programming and staffing needs.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs, move materials, and perform other physical tasks typical in a library environment.

Benefits & Compensation:

  • “Good Faith” Salary Range: $52,000 - $56,500 depending on qualifications and experience
  • Benefits include: medical and dental benefits, 15 vacation days after probationary period, 12 sick days, 3 personal days, and paid holidays
  • Participation in the Public Employee Retirement System (PERS)
