Hopewell Public Library, Part-Time Library Assistant; Evening, Daytime, and Weekend Hours Required,

The Hopewell Public Library, located in Hopewell Borough in Mercer County, seeks a creative, friendly, and flexible part-time Library Assistant to develop adult programming for a small community-focused library. The position is 12 hours per week, including one evening shift (5-8 pm) on Monday or Wednesday, daytime shifts, and occasional weekend hours.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, coordinate, and manage diverse programs that connect our adult patrons to the community; for example, book clubs, art classes, writing workshops, knitting, quilting, cooking.
  • Assist with the development and design of promotional materials for patron programs.
  • Cultivate the library’s relationship with local community groups.
  • Provide coverage at the circulation desk including but not limited to answering the library’s telephone and assisting patrons.
  • Perform additional functions at the discretion of the Director.

Requirements:

  • Have a high school diploma; college degree preferred
  • Have a professional, courteous, and friendly manner
  • Enjoy helping people
  • Have strong customer service skills in-person and on the telephone 
  • Be able to multitask and manage interruptions
  • Be detail-oriented
  • Be computer literate, creative and comfortable using common software and the internet 
  • Be able to climb steps, stairs, stand for long periods of time, stoop, and handle lifting of up to 20 lbs.
  • Previous library, teaching or retail experience is a plus, but not required

Compensation:

  • $18.50/hour
  • Limited holiday pay
