Maplewood Memorial Library seeks a friendly, service-oriented person as an hourly substitute Reference Librarian. The librarian has excellent customer service skills, is computer literate, organized and efficient, and enjoys working in a busy library serving children and adults. Prior knowledge of adult and children’s materials, the BCCLS catalog and LEAP are a plus. Applicant must have an MLS and NJ State Certification, or be a graduate student enrolled in an MLIS program. This is an hourly position, offering shifts on an as-needed basis; evening and weekend availability is highly desirable.
Job Duties:
- Assist patrons at the Adult and/or Children’s Reference desks with reference questions
- Help patrons locate library materials, in physical and digital formats
- Provide basic computer and technology assistance to the public
- Reader’s advisory services
Other tasks may be assigned as needed.
Scheduling: Hourly, as needed, including evenings and Saturdays.
Requirements:
- MLIS and NJ State Certification, or enrollment in MLIS program
- Strong customer service & interpersonal skills
- Good communication & organizational skills
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to regularly bend, lift, push and pull up to 25 lbs of books and other materials
