Library Systems Manager - Cherry Hill Public Library

Hours: 35 hours per week | Salary: $65,000-85,000

About the Position: 

The Cherry Hill Public Library is seeking to hire an experienced manager who can oversee all in-house technology systems. We are a state-of-the-art library in a thriving and diverse suburban community. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, responsible leader ready to keep up within a busy library. This individual will lead strategic and sustained technological innovations, and will coordinate their operations and assessment. This position will play a key role in improving patrons’ overall technology experience, which contributes to the success of the Library. 

 

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Maintaining, troubleshooting, and arranging service for all system hardware and software – includes staff and public PCs, website support, library ILS, copy/fax/scan machines, library databases, cybersecurity, printers and printing kiosks, self-checkout stations, and more.  Includes scheduled maintenance and upgrades on all hardware and software, and keeping an inventory of all IT equipment.
  • Managing all daily support tickets: handling public and staff-related concerns about hardware and software in a timely manner.
  • Managing all Computer Lab staff, both full time and part time: conducting performance evaluations, providing coaching and feedback, and recommending personnel actions.
  • Coordinating all Computer Lab staff scheduling and duties.
  • Coordinating, planning and implementing information technology systems, including investigating new tools and services. Working with management to evaluate existing services. Keeping current with innovations and best practices in libraries.
  • Teaching technology classes to the public.
  • Developing and monitoring IT budget.
  • Serving key role in backup and recovery activities and disaster recovery planning.

 

Qualifications:

  • Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of IT principles, processes, systems and standards.
  • Ability to prioritize library-industry standards of patron privacy while also maximizing cybersecurity.
  • Deep understanding of technology innovations in library services.
  • Expertise in library technology applications that can extend collections and services.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with library management and staff. Must thrive while working in a team-based environment as well as independently.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills – written and verbal.
  • A positive, problem-solving mentality.
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist other departments as needed.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective knowledge-based relationships with vendors.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Teaching or computer instruction experience a plus.

 

Education:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or information technology, or equivalent. A Masters in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program highly desired. M.C.S.E. desired. A minimum of three years’ experience in systems administration and/or emerging technologies. Public library or municipal experience preferred. One year of supervisory experience required. 

 

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Koha ILS a plus. Ability to learn the library POS systems: SAM/Comprise, self-check, others.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues, librarians, supervisors and with adult and juvenile patrons of the library.
  • Ability to lead a team and manage a complex schedule.
  • Ability to understand the importance of following established procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to work and perform tasks without supervision.

 

Qualifications:

  • Successfully pass a criminal background check
  • New Jersey residency required pursuant to NJSA 54:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), if selected for the position

Schedule:

This is a full time (35 hours a week) position, nights and weekend work may be required.

 

About the Library:

The Cherry Hill Public Library is the largest municipal library in the southern New Jersey area. The Library is open seven days a week and is operational Monday through Wednesday from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm 32 Sundays a year. (Hours subject to change.)
