Schedule: Mondays & Wednesdays, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM (8 hours per week)
Compensation: $27 per hour
Position Summary
The Fanwood Memorial Library seeks a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Part-Time Librarian
to oversee the development and maintenance of the adult fiction and nonfiction collection. The
successful candidate will maintain a current, diverse, and engaging collection that is responsive
to community interests.
Responsibilities
● Select, evaluate, and order adult fiction and non-fiction materials in print and digital formats
● Perform ongoing collection assessment and weeding in accordance with established best practices
● Manage and monitor the adult materials budget
● Oversee end processing of adult materials, including reviewing bibliographic records,
classification review and updates, labeling, and ensuring materials are properly prepared for circulation
● Coordinate physical processing tasks such as spine labels, RFID tags and protective coverings
● Analyze circulation statistics and usage data to guide purchasing decisions
● Review professional journals, vendor catalogs, and other selection tools to stay informed of new and forthcoming titles and publishing trends in collection development
● Provide individualized reader’s advisory services to adult patrons.
● Prepare book displays and curated reading lists to highlight new and notable materials qualifications
Required:
● Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution
● New Jersey Professional Librarian Certification
● Experience in public library collection development
● Strong knowledge of contemporary fiction and non-fiction literature
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
● Strong organizational and budget management abilities
● Proficiency with integrated library systems and standard library technologies preferred:
● Experience in a New Jersey public library
● Familiarity with community-based collection development
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move materials up to 25 lbs
Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods
