The Cherry Hill Public Library is seeking to hire a creative, energetic, and well-read Teen Services Librarian for the Youth Services Department. We are a state-of-the-art library in a thriving and diverse suburban community. The successful candidate will be a responsible and flexible individual ready to keep up within a busy department, provide library service and programming for teens, and maintain constant contact and collaboration with the teen community and other groups and professionals who work with young adults.
Description of Duties:
- Plans a variety of teen programs appropriate to the teen community’s identified interests and developmental needs, including crafts, games, and presentations.
- Spearheads and facilitates the annual Teen Summer Reading Program.
- Recruits, supervises, and coordinates teen volunteers for all departments. Creates volunteer opportunities, application forms and schedules.
- Manages the library’s Teen Advisory Board (TAB), runs monthly TAB meetings, and coordinates TAB-run programs.
- Provides outreach to public and private Cherry Hill schools. Partners with Middle and High School librarians, teachers, and student organizations on programming and outreach visits.
- Manages the collection development of print and digital materials for ages 12-18. Evaluates items and makes decisions about selection, replacement, and withdrawal of materials.
- Works with the PR/Marketing Coordinator on social media, website, and marketing materials for teens. Experience with graphic design and Constant Contact is a plus.
- Partners with external organizations and groups to increase the use of library resources and services.
- Collaborates across library departments for projects, committees, and large programs that support the library’s mission and goals.
- Provides excellent customer service on the Youth Services desk by providing information, readers advisory, and reference services to patrons in-person, by phone, and online.
- Works with a complex circulation computer system and manages a cash register while collecting fines and fees.
- Implements and adheres to all library policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university
- Experience providing reference and reader’s advisory services
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Knowledge of print and digital general knowledge resources
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
- Teaching or computer instruction experience a plus
- Knowledge of Koha ILS a plus
- Successfully pass a criminal background check
- New Jersey residency required pursuant to NJSA 54:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), if selected for the position
Schedule:
This is a full time (35 hours a week) position with one weeknight and rotating Saturdays and Sundays required.
About the Library:
The Cherry Hill Public Library is the largest municipal library in the southern New Jersey area. The Library is open seven days a week and is in operation Monday through Wednesday from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm 32 Sundays a year. *Library hours subject to change.
