Fun and friendly small library seeks a Senior Librarian with big ideas. With several retirements, a strategic plan in the works, and a potential renovation project, the Mountainside Library is evolving and we are looking for a forward-thinking, customer-focused librarian to help us write the next chapter.
The Senior Librarian will:
- Work closely with the Director to develop and implement a future vision of the library.
- Plan, schedule, market, implement, and evaluate adult programs.
- Coordinate, execute, and implement outreach, marketing and publicity strategy.
- Maintain an ongoing social media presence in collaboration with library staff.
- Provide patron-based services in the form of reference service, readers’ advisory, and technology assistance
- Maintain the adult collection including selection, purchasing, evaluating, placement, and weeding of all physical and digital material.
- Oversee maintenance and updating of the website.
- Develop relationships with local organizations and community.
- Act as a point person for technology and equipment issues.
- Attend relevant professional meetings, workshops, and conferences.
- Run appropriate reports and analyze data related to adult services and circulation.
- Oversee patron services operations including supervision of the circulation staff.
- Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate part-time patron services staff and shelvers.
- Assist in establishing, interpreting, and implementing policies and procedures.
- Play an active role in complaint resolution and patron problem-solving.
- Act on behalf of the Director temporarily if Director is unavailable.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s Degree in Library Science
- Minimum 3-5 years of full-time, customer-facing public library experience
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a supervisory capacity

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluency in English.
- Outstanding organizational skills.

- Competent problem solver.
- Proficient in the use of automated library systems, digital tools, and web-based technologies.
- Proficient in use of social media and related tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
