Skill-Sharing Conversation: Seed & Plant Libraries
Virtual via Zoom
Event Description
Topic: Skill-Sharing Conversation: Seed & Plant Libraries
Back by popular demand! The idea of public seed libraries has been gaining momentum in the past few years. Of course, saving and sharing seeds with your community isn’t new, but more and more places are starting organized efforts to offer saved seeds.
So what is a seed library? It's simply a place where you can "check out" seeds for free. Just as traditional libraries enrich a community by providing a way to share books, seed libraries enrich the gardening community by allowing gardeners to share seeds. Seed libraries encourage botanical literacy, affording gardeners (or aspiring gardeners) a low-risk way to try something new and learn what different plants look like and how they grow.
Are you interested in launching a seed library, but unsure where to start? Or, are you interested in developing plant-related programs, but need ideas and inspiration?
Feel free to learn from library colleagues across the state as we share our ideas for seed and plant libraries. All are welcome!
