About the Position:
The Cherry Hill Public Library Board of Trustees is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, well-read Director for our busy Library. We are a state-of-the-art library in a thriving and diverse suburban community. Our ideal candidate will build on the success of our library by engaging the community, the staff, the Library Board of Trustees, the Township, the Friends of the Library, and lead us forward to new levels of community service.
The Library Director is responsible for the administration of the Cherry Hill Public Library and its services to the community, providing vision and leadership to implement the Library’s mission and goals.
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Oversight of all Library operations, facilities, budget, strategic planning, hiring and supervising personnel, community programming and educational initiatives, and development of Library’s collection in partnership with the Library Chief of Operations.
- Serve as a liaison, advocate and spokesperson for the Library to ensure that the Library serves the curricular needs of the community, in information literacy, collection development, community outreach and programming.
- Develop long and short-term plans for the Library, focused on innovative programs and initiatives, and recommend policies and practices to achieve goals.
- Work cooperatively with the Board of Trustees and the Friends of the Library.
- Coordinate, supervise and manage all services and staffing (Circulation, Technical Services, Reference, Youth Services, Maintenance, IT & Administration) to meet goals and objectives of the Library.
- Plan, develop, and deliver high quality library services that are accessible to students, staff, and the community.
- Coordinate the Library's functional responsibilities in acquisition, bibliographic resource cataloging, circulation, interlibrary loan, reference, special collections, and reserves.
- Identify strategies and programs for community outreach and oversee ongoing review, assessment, and improvement of library programs, resources, and services.
- Develop and maintain a collection development plan in partnership with Library to address curricular changes and innovation. Coordinate the systematic evaluation and on-going weeding of the collection.
- Engage in documentation and assessment of library instruction, staff workflow, and collection utilization.
- Support the librarians in their engagement with the Library in the use and application of information resources.
- Supervise training, scheduling, time-keeping, and evaluation of support staff and librarians.
- Oversee care and maintenance of library building.
- Attend library functions during the work day, evenings and weekends as needed.
- Work with staff, the Friends of the Library and Board of Trustees on the creation, implementation and execution of fund-raising initiatives.
- Promote high staff morale and encourage clear and open staff communications.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have a master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a public Library.
- Minimum of 2 years of progressively increasing supervisory experience.
- Strong writing skills, communication and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of print and digital general knowledge resources.
- Knowledge of Library budgets and fiscal issues.
- Strong technology skills and general comfort with learning new technology
- Knowledge of Koha ILS a plus.
- Knowledge of grant opportunities and fundraising a plus.
- Successfully pass a criminal background check.
- New Jersey residency required pursuant to NJSA 54:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), if selected for the position.
About the Library:
The Cherry Hill Public Library is the largest municipal library in the southern New Jersey area. The Library is open seven days a week and is operation Monday through Wednesday from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm 32 Sundays a year. * Subject to change.
