Event Description

Topic: Skill-Sharing Conversation: State of the Art: Art-Themed Storytimes

Are you looking for ideas on how to reinvent storytime? Art and storytime are a great combination! Art is a wonderful way to encourage kids to dive into their imaginations and engage in their creativity.

Incorporating art into storytime allows children to have a safe outlet to explore their own self-expression while developing early literary skills. A storytime focusing on exploring the arts could include hands-on activities, like painting, drawing, sculpting, and more, all while focusing on or around the themes of a specific book.

Join us as we hear about the success of the Once Upon an Easel storytime at Scotch Plains Public Library, and share ideas for incorporating art-related activities into storytime. All are welcome, even those who teach information literacy to tweens and teens and are looking for inspiration for art programming.

Moderator: Brie Mintz-Hanley, Early Literacy Librarian, Scotch Plains Public Library

Date & Time: Tuesday, October 7, 3-4PM

Location: Online via Zoom
