Position Summary: 

The Livingston Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate individual to join our team in a new position as a full-time Community Outreach Librarian.  The successful candidate will be a part of our Technology & Community Outreach department and focus on connecting our diverse population of 31,000+ residents to library services.  Outreach focus will include the following objectives: developing partnerships and volunteering opportunities for special needs adults, hosting programs for the small business community, assisting the Friends of the Livingston Public Library on future fundraising campaigns and supporting our current English Language Learners (ELL) program.

This is a full-time position and includes one night a week and a rotating weekend. Position reports to the Head of Technology and Community Engagement.

About this role:

  • Builds partnerships with local schools and community organizations to create a library workforce program of volunteers for emerging adults with special needs
  • Creates and hosts  programs for the Livingston small businesses community and entrepreneurs
  • Collaborates with the Friends of the Livingston Public Library on fundraising opportunities
  • Supports the ELL coordinator and expands upon our current English Language Learner (ELL) services
  • Creates, publicizes, and markets library programs and services through social media, press releases, and other forms of outreach 

Essential Duties: 

  • Responsibilities will include a full range of duties in the Technology & Community Engagement department, as well as other service desks when needed, with a focus on reference services and community outreach
  • Creates services and programs to expand the Library’s outreach opportunities
  • Researches technologies that could support community engagement and outreach
  • Familiarity with collection development best practices and maintains language learning and small business topics in the collection, print and online
  • Knowledge of library resources, Canva, Office/Google Suite applications, library apps and Zoom. Experience incorporating current and emerging technology into the classroom environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Willingness and ability to work as a “team player” within the department and wider organization
  • Outreach experience encouraged..  Previous library experience is a plus
  • Reports to the Head of the Technology and Community Engagement  department
  • Participates in professional organizations, attends professional workshops, and other duties as needed and assigned
  • Must be able to lift and/or push 25 to 40lbs 

 

Education and Special Requirements:

  • A Masters of Library Science from an ALA-accredited university with a NJ Librarian certificate. 
  • Currently enrolled students in a Library or Information Science program at an ALA-accredited university will be considered at an adjusted salary rate.  A NJ librarian will be required at the completion of an MLS degree.

“Good Faith” Salary, Range, or Rate of Pay

Starting salary for a degreed candidate is $62,000. Position includes medical, dental, and a generous leave package.
