The East Orange Public Library (EOPL) is seeking an enthusiastic paraprofessional to support the vision of a busy multicultural urban library that is dedicated to making a difference in the community. This is a great opportunity for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual who loves working with the public. Position includes evenings and Saturdays. It is a 37 ½ hour work week. Scheduled hours vary with some evening and weekend hours required.
Essential Duties
- Perform Circulation Desk responsibilities including check-in/check-out library materials; issue library cards and renew existing cards for library customers; assist library customers with printing; handles cash register entries, transactions, and calculating change; and shelve and shelf-read library materials.
- Monitor PC Center by assist patrons with Internet search and printing.
- Work Reader Service Desk by monitoring the use of the Study Rooms and the service area.
- Provides friendly and courteous assistance to customers in person, by phone, or email.
- Perform duties of material acquisition and processing.
- Other duties as assigned.
- All staff are crossed trained to work in other areas of the library.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Punctuality, reliability, trustworthiness and excellent attendance required.
- Able to work flexible schedule – some weekends required.
- Good judgement and initiative.
- Detail oriented and accurate.
- Team player and work cooperatively with co-workers.
- Able to work independently.
- Must be able to lift (up to 50 pounds) and bend.
- High School Diploma or GED required. Associate degree preferred.
- Interests and skills in basic trouble shooting technology equipment are preferred.
