Job Title: Adult Services Librarian or Library Associate (Full-Time)
Location: Elizabeth Public Library – All Branches
Status: Full-Time
Hours: 35 hours per week, including one evening per week and every other Saturday
Position Summary:
The Elizabeth Public Library is seeking a dedicated and energetic Adult Services Librarian or Adult Services Library Associate to join our team. This position provides professional library services to adult patrons, including reference and readers’ advisory, digital literacy instruction, technology assistance, programming, and community engagement across multiple branches. The Adult Services Librarian/Library Associate will assist patrons in navigating both print and digital resources, support community members in acquiring essential digital skills, and serve as a welcoming and knowledgeable presence in the library.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality reference and readers’ advisory services to adult patrons in person, by phone, email, and virtually.
- Assist patrons with computers, mobile devices, email, online forms, job applications, and other technology needs.
- Plan, develop, and present engaging adult programs and workshops, including digital literacy and technology instruction.
- Provide community resource information and referrals related to employment, social services, housing, health, and local organizations.
- Create, update, and promote content for library websites and digital platforms; experience with website design or content management systems is a plus.
- Collaborate with library staff on system-wide initiatives, outreach, displays, and programming.
- Maintain knowledge of library collections, databases, and digital resources.
- Compile statistics and reports related to reference services and programming.
- Uphold library policies and promote a welcoming, inclusive environment for all patrons.
- Travel between Elizabeth Public Library branches as scheduled or required.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution or enrollment in an MLS/MLIS program with anticipated graduation within six months.
- Experience providing reference and readers’ advisory services in a public library setting.
- Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to assist patrons with computers, technology, and online resources.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Needs to work one evening per week and every other Saturday.
- Ability to travel between library branches.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing or teaching digital literacy programs.
- Experience with website design, content management systems, or digital content creation.
- Outreach or community engagement experience.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills reflective of the Elizabeth community.
Skills and Competencies

- Comfort working with patrons from diverse backgrounds and with varying technology skill levels.
- Flexibility, initiative, and strong problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and library databases.

Salary and Benefits
- Adult Services Librarian: $58,000–$60,000 per year
- Adult Services Library Associate: $40,000–$45,000 per year
