FT Library Assistant, Adult Services

DEPARTMENT: MULTI-DEPARTMENTAL (Primary dept: Adult Services)
ANTICIPATED START DATE: February 2,  2026
STARTING SALARY: $55,000 – $65,000 commensurate with experience
EDUCATION: BA required. Related MA a plus
Typical hours: 35 hours per week.
Monday to Wednesday: 9 am to 5 pm; Thursday: 1 to 9 pm; Friday: 10 to 6 pm Every third Saturday: 9 am to 5 pm (off on Wednesday for Saturday.)

Job Summary
The Ridgewood Public Library seeks a dynamic person to provide outstanding reference and customer service assistance at the Reference Desk, provide key support to the department supervisor and administration to promote adult programs and initiatives through digital and print channels, work with the team to plan and implement adult programs, assist with technology, and help with other administrative tasks.

Requirements

• Excellent customer service. Helpful, courteous, and energetic.
• Strong marketing and graphic design (Canva), verbal, and written communication skills.
• Strong social media skills, knowledge of social media and emerging technologies.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan all types of adult programming from idea to implementation.
• Ability to provide outreach for Village organizations and events.

Examples of Work

• Provides reference help and customer service on the Reference Desk.
• Works with Supervisor and Administration with marketing via print, email, and social media platforms.
• Plans and implements adult programs including lectures, programs, and events.
• Seeks opportunities for increased audience development and education awareness.
• Identifies future opportunities for brand enhancement.
• Keeps a diary of press communications activity.
• Works with the supervisor to assess programming and overall efficiency for the department.
• Assists with technology.
• Other duties as required.
