Health Literacy for Library Staff

LibraryLinkNJ is proud to offer an introductory series on Health Literacy for Library Staff. The series will cover medical terminology, consumer health resources, and the latest updates on PubMed and Google Scholar. This series is intended to assist reference librarians respond to medical-related questions from patrons, but all library staff are welcome to attend, including managers of all levels.

You are welcome to register for any of all of the following sessions, which do not need to be completed in any particular order. When registering, please select the session(s) that are most of interest to you!

  • Thurs, April 10: Learning Medical Terminology
  • Thurs, April 17: Explaining Consumer Health Resources
  • Thurs, April 24: Navigating PubMed & Google Scholar

Each session will last for an hour, with plenty of time at the end for Q&A.

About the Presenter:

Helen-Ann Brown Epstein (MLS, MS, AHIP-D, FMLA) is an Informationist at Virtua Health, an academic health system in South Jersey, with seven hospitals across several counties. Epstein is active in the Medical Library Association and the Health Sciences Library Association of New Jersey. She began her career at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and has worked at Virtua for the past ten years.
