LLNJ Skill Sharing Conversation

Topic: Skill-Sharing Conversation: Skill-Sharing Conversation: Collection Development for Public Library Staff: Tips and Tricks

Collection Development—the process of acquiring, maintaining, and managing materials for a public library's collection—is essential in supporting community needs and driving patron engagement. Making strategic decisions about what materials to add to the collection can be complicated, involving multiple factors such as your library's mission, user needs, format decisions, and (of course) your materials budget.

Sometimes it can feel overwhelming because modern collection development is much broader than what many of us were taught in library school. In this meetup, we'll go beyond traditional resources and provide practical 21st-century advice for strengthening your library's collection. We'll discuss emerging areas like self-published books, #BookTok recommendations, digital resources, and lending "things" beyond books. Please join us!

This is the first session in a two-part series; the next session will discuss collection maintenance and weeding. Join us for either or both sessions. All are welcome!

Moderator: Mary Martin, Director, Wanaque Public Library

Date & Time: Wednesday, May 7, 2-3PM

Location: Online via Zoom
