Summer Book Bash: Summer Scares Authors

Join us for a conversation with Summer Scares authors P. Djèlí Clark, K.G. Campbell, Suzanne Walker, and Wendy Xu. All attendees will be eligible for a chance to win a sampling of scary and/or suspenseful books from publishers, such as Macmillan, HarperCollins, Grove Atlantic, and W. W. Norton & Company as well as book-related prizes from Litographs, Out of Print, and Ideal Bookshelf.

  • P. Djèlí Clark is the author of the novel A Master of Djinn, and the award-winning novellas Ring Shout and The Black God’s Drums, among others. He resides in a small Edwardian castle in New England with his wife, daughters, and pet dragon (who suspiciously resembles a Boston Terrier). His latest book is Abeni's Song, published by Macmillan in July 2023. 
  • K.G. Campbell was born in Kenya, but raised and educated in Scotland. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Art History from the University of Edinburgh. After trying on several careers, Keith eventually returned to his early passion of writing and illustrating stories. He is now a full-time author/illustrator, and lives in California.
  • Suzanne Walker is a Chicago-based writer and editor. She is co-creator of the critically acclaimed graphic novel Mooncakes. She has spoken at numerous conventions on a variety of topics ranging from disability representation in sci-fi/fantasy to comics collaboration. You can often find her posting pictures of her cat and chronicling her longsword adventures.
  • Wendy Xu is a bestselling, award-nominated Brooklyn-based illustrator and comics artist. She is the creator of the middle grade fantasy graphic novel Tidesong and co-creator of Mooncakes. Her work has been featured on Catapult and Tor.com, among other places. Her most recent graphic novel is The Infinity Particle, published by HarperCollins in August 2023.

Moderator Becky Spratford is a librarian and New Jersey native now living in Illinois. She runs the critically acclaimed RA training blog RA for All. Known for her horror column for Library Journal, Becky is also the author of The Reader's Advisory Guide to Horror, Third Edition (ALA Editions). She is a proud member of the Horror Writers Association, and currently serves as organizer of their annual Librarians' Day.
