New Evaluations in NJ: Students, Teachers and School Library Media Specialists

New Jersey has implemented a new system of evaluating school personnel, including School Library Media Specialists. This workshop will guide you through how School Library Media Specialists will be affected by the new system, including: comprehend how classroom teachers are evaluated; learn how to use NJASL and AASL’s tools to develop an appropriate SLMS observation and evaluation tool; learn to formulate collaborative, effective and achievable Student Growth Objectives; and learn the important role you have in preparing students for the upcoming PARCC assessments. This workshop will include up-to-date information from the NJ Department of Education.

After this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Formulate appropriate and effective Student Growth Objectives
  • Build a range of strategies and techniques to communicate how a School Library Media Specialist should be evaluated  
  • Explain the New Jersey classroom teacher evaluation process
  • Take an active role in preparing students for the PARCC assessment
