Adult Services Librarian/Library Associate Position

RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  • Create and coordinate innovative, engaging, and diverse virtual, in-person, and hybrid adult programs that educate, entertain, and connect our community
  • Track, evaluate, and report on the library’s adult programs and outreach activities
  • Proactively advise the Assistant Director of community needs, make recommendations on suggested programming, service improvements, etc.
  • Through community surveys, feedback, and analysis, identify areas and trends of community interest and need to guide future programming
  • Assist as needed with the library’s outreach efforts, including but not limited to updating the library’s online calendar, creating eye-catching marketing materials, contributing to the library’s social media posts, and drafting press releases, email notices, and press releases to promote library services and events
  • Provide reference assistance to patrons, including readers’ advisory and tech support
  • Represent the library and promote its services at community events and meetings
  • Cultivate the library’s relationships with various local groups, organizations, social service agencies, and businesses
  • Serve as the library’s liaison to the Friends and assist with preparations for the annual book sale
  • Oversee the library’s monthly art exhibits and receptions
  • Help coordinate the volunteer program as needed
  • Provide backup coverage for any service desk or position as required
  • Manage selected areas of the adult collection, including selection, review, weeding, etc.
  • Perform additional functions at the discretion of the Assistant Director or Director

QUALIFICATIONS
 

  • A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program and New Jersey Professional Librarian’s Certificate are preferred.  Students currently working toward their degree will be considered.
  • 1-2 years of experience in customer service, coordinating events, community outreach, marketing, or reference required.
  • Experience with marketing, graphic design, newsletter, and/or calendar software preferred.  Photography experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with Polaris, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office products preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license. Ability to use personal vehicle to attend meetings and transport materials and equipment. Mileage is reimbursed at the IRS rate.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and bend. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

 

SCHEDULE

This position requires scheduling flexibility to accommodate library and community events and meetings.  37 hours a week, the initial schedule will include one regularly scheduled night a week, and one regularly scheduled Saturday a month.  Additional nights and/or weekend hours as required for special events and programs.  Approximately 30% of regular weekly hours will be scheduled on the Reference Desk.

 

COMPENSATION

Salary based on experience, with generous health benefits, paid time off, and enrollment in the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).

Salary range for Librarian with experience: $57,500 - $61,000

Salary range for Library Associate: $42,000 - $45,000
