Adult Services/Reference Librarian, Cresskill Public Library

The Cresskill Public Library serves as the intellectual heart of this diverse community. As a cultural hub, the library functions as a space where residents can access technology, attend educational workshops, community events and programs for patrons of all ages.
We are seeking a dedicated and creative Adult Services Librarian to join our library team. This position is responsible for collection development, programming, digital content management, and direct patron services for our adult community.
Key Responsibilities
Collection Development
- Select, order, process, and catalog adult fiction and nonfiction materials
- Maintain awareness of publishing trends, new releases, and popular titles
- Evaluate existing collections and identify areas for development
- Ensure diverse and balanced collections that meet community needs
Programming
- Research, develop, and schedule engaging programs including lectures, workshops, and classes, for adults and seniors
- Coordinate with presenters and community partners for programming
- Implement a variety of programs including crafts, technology training, and educational lectures
- Track program attendance and gather feedback for continuous improvement
Digital Content & Communication
- Maintain and update library website
- Create and distribute bi-monthly newsletter highlighting library events and resources
- Design monthly print calendars of library activities
- Develop promotional materials for adult programs and services
Social Media Management
- Create and maintain engaging content for library social media accounts
- Develop social media campaigns to promote library services, collections, and events
- Monitor social media engagement and respond to comments and messages
- Stay current with social media trends and best practices for libraries
Reader Advisory & Book Group
- Facilitate monthly book group including selection of titles and discussion leadership
- Provide reader advisory services to patrons
- Create book displays and reading lists for various interests and occasions
Customer Service
- Provide reference and information services to library patrons
- Assist patrons with technology needs including computers, e-readers, and online resources
- Respond to patron inquiries and requests professionally and efficiently
- Assist at circulation desk as required
Skills & Qualifications
- Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution. Students currently enrolled in an MLS or MLIS will also be considered
- Experience with integrated library systems (LEAP) and collection development
- Knowledge of adult literature across genres
- Strong technology skills including website maintenance and digital content creation
- Proficient with Google/MS Suite, Canva, Wix and Constant Contact
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Programming experience preferred
- Customer service orientation with a passion for community engagement
- Ability to work collaboratively and multitask, adapt and solve problems in a dynamic environment
This position requires one evening a week and one Saturday a month
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Candidates must be a New Jersey resident.

Salary: $55,000 - $60,000 per year commensurate with education and experience.
