The Bergenfield Public Library seeks a friendly, energetic and motivated individual to manage its Lending Services and Acquisitions Department. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supervises Department staff, to include annual performance evaluations, disciplinary documentation where needed, recruitment, training and scheduling
- Supervise the Check Out Desk and related tasks (answering the telephone, checking out and in books and other items, reconciling customer fines and reciprocal bills, issuing new library cards, changing patron’s records as needed, processing incoming and outgoing delivery materials, makes reserve phone calls, filing, shelf-reading, shelving, shifting and other routine circulation functions)
- Supervise linking and processing of all library acquisitions
- Assist with material selection, collections analysis and assorted print and electronic collection development projects including weeding
- Represent the Library at off-site community events
- Participation in the Library’s passport acceptance program
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- MLS from an ALA-accredited program. Those who are currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited MLS program will be considered provided there is recent supervisory experience
- Two years’ experience as a public services librarian including supervisory responsibilities
- Demonstrated capacity to deal tactfully and courteously with the public
- Individuals who speak multiple languages are strongly encouraged to apply

Compensation:
Salary range is $70,000-$74,000 with full benefits and generous paid time off package. This is a union and civil service position and is subject to provisional appointment. Continuing professional development and educational opportunities provided.
Schedule:
The schedule for this position is 35 hours per week, including a regular evening and weekend coverage on a rotating basis.
If hired, the applicant must be in compliance with the residency requirements of the New Jersey First Act within one year of the date of hire and must participate in the NJ PERS retirement system.
