The library assistant will be responsible for circulation duties, providing simple reference and basic reader's advisory services, and perform basic assistance on library technology. The position may include technical services and other duties as assigned.
The positionis approximately 18-25 hours per week, a commitment to cover weekend hours in the rotation schedule.
Responsibilities includebut are not limited to:
- Creates and maintains a welcoming, organized,accessible and safe environment for patrons and staff.
- Charges and discharges library material
- Issues, updates and manages librarycards, lost cards, and libraryuser accounts
- Collects library fines and fees for library materialsand services
- Handles and processesthe library incomingand outgoing holds
- Provides directional and simple referenceservices in person or over the phone
- Assists with library curbsidepickup or other services assigned
- Performs basic public assistance on library computers, scanner, copier, and fax machine
- Sorts and distributes incoming mail and processes periodicals
- Shelves library materials,does shelf-reading and
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to speak, write and communicate effectively in English
- Strong commitment to providing excellent customer services
- Computer literacyincluding basic knowledgeand skills of MS Office and Windows
- Ability to resolve customer computerissues
- Experience with tablets and other electronic devices
- Ability to assist with computermaintenance and updates
- Ability to learn and adopt new technology
- High School diploma or equivalent technicalor trade school
- Ability to bend, push, reach and lift up to 25 lbs.
