The Middletown Township Public Library is seeking an energetic and creative Full-time 
Librarian 3 to join as the new Youth Services Manager. The Children’s Department runs more than 400 programs each year and is widely loved by our community. This position requires outstanding people skills as a big part of this role involves interacting with the local community. Flexibility, strong communication, and superior customer service skills are a must. At least two (2) years of Librarian experience required - previous supervisory experience preferred. 

Education: 

A Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey College Master’s program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State University. 

License: 

Appointees must hold or possess a valid certification as a Professional Librarian issued by Thomas Edison State University. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include: 

Community Relations

  • Continue outreach initiatives and community partnerships already established, as well as creating new ones. 
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key personnel in the local schools and other organizations that serve children and their families in order to enhance and promote collaboration. 
  • Foster a culture of friendly and courteous customer service to ensure our library is a welcoming place for all visitors. 
  • Promotes the library and its programs, resources, and collections at a variety of community events, including Back to School Nights, PTA Meetings, and other township organizations and businesses. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly to both staff and the public, strongly enforcing library policies when necessary. 

Programming & Collection Development

  • Work with staff to plan and create a monthly calendar of events, ensuring all age groups are represented. 
  • Research program performers, keeping in line with the needs of the community as well as the yearly budget. 
  • Oversee content and arrangement of displays, exhibits, and special library programs.
  • Arrange and implement school trips, scout trips, and homeschool groups.
  • Oversee collection development, evaluation, and maintenance of the children’s collections. 
  • Keep up to date with trending children’s materials and community interests. 

Management

  • Supervise and train a team of 8 employees in the children’s department. 
  • Manage and schedule desk coverage based on workflow and programming needs. 
  • Approve time off requests, ensuring proper coverage in the department.
  • Prepare and submit statistics and reports.
  • Manage collection and program budgets. 
  • Seek out and apply for applicable grants and ensure proper implementation. 
  • Propose new products and technical equipment to enrich the library experience. 
  • Challenge and inspire staff to try new and creative ventures for the betterment of the community. 
  • Attend monthly managers meetings and facilitate regular department meetings. 
  • Attend continuing education and professional development opportunities.
  • Acts as a person in charge with other management team members. 

Schedule:

35-hour work week including 1 evening shift (1:00-9:00 pm) 

Off 1 day per month during the week to cover 1 Saturday per month (9:00-5:00 pm) shift

Compensation: 
CWA Local Union 1032 contractual salary:  $86,216.35/year
