Hours: 40-hours weekly, including daytimes, evenings, and alternating Saturdays
Role Overview: The North Brunswick Public Library is looking for an imaginative, energetic, and motivated librarian specializing in children’s services to become a part of our team. Under the supervision of the Assistant Library Director, the perfect candidate will provide guidance to young readers and their caregivers, enhancing their library experience. As the children’s librarian, you will play a pivotal role in our diverse community and will be responsible for planning and presenting children’s programs and outreach events.
Compensation and Benefits: A competitive annual salary of $65,000 and an exceptional benefits package. Benefits package includes paid holidays, vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, comprehensive health benefits, and enrollment in the PERS pension system.
Job Description:
- Plan, design, and implement age-appropriate programs for children ages 0-12
- Order and manage the children’s collections, including selection, cataloging, and weeding
- Plan, coordinate, and participate in community outreach and engagement events
- Create compelling digital and print content to highlight our children’s programs, collections, and services
- Collaborate with local schools and community groups to extend outreach services
- Provide exceptional reference assistance including user instruction, readers advisory, and research help at our reference desk
- May be required to perform other duties not listed
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program
- Valid Professional Librarian certification issued by Thomas Edison State University or ability to obtain one
- Valid NJ Driver’s License and the ability to travel to off-site community outreach events
- Positive, pro-active attitude and ability to provide outstanding library service
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience with the Internet, electronic databases, ILS software, social media, and digital applications
- Competence in articulating thoughts and ideas clearly, effectively, and politely, in English, both verbally and in writing
- Successful completion of a background check
- Must comply with the “New Jersey First Act”
