Hillside Public Library invites candidates to join our dedicated staff in delivering on our mission to change lives for a better community.
Essential Functions:
- Outstanding customer service
- Charging and discharging library materials
- Process and maintain library card registration accounts according to established policies and procedures
- Computes and collects fees and makes change
- Help patrons navigate the online catalog, locate items and direct them to the shelves
- Support patrons with basic technology needs, including computer usage and printing
- Maintain the library’s collection by shelving and shifting materials as needed, and conducting inventory
- Assist with inter-library loan processes to ensure patrons have access to a broad range of resources
- Perform other duties as assigned to support library operations
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; Experience working with or assisting the general public; Proficient computer skills and familiarity with software including, but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat; Basic knowledge of office equipment: photocopier, scanner, and desktop printer
Reading materials and providing verbal assistance to library users in English; manual dexterity to handle books, software, and a variety of other media formats; intermittent sitting, standing, and walking; occasional bending, reaching, and stooping; lifting and carrying items weighing up to 35 lbs.; pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 100 lbs.; distinguishing sounds at various frequencies and volumes; distance vision sufficient to distinguish people or objects under a variety of light conditions; vision sufficient to view computer screens and spine labels under a variety of light conditions.
Hillside Public Library is a New Jersey Civil Services Employer, appointment is provisional pending completion of NJ Civil Service process
This position is subject to the NJ First Act, requiring public employees to establish residency in the State of New Jersey within 1 year of appointment. See N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70).
Benefits
Paid holiday and sick leave; participation in Empower (Defined Contribution Retirement Plan - DCRP), contributing a minimum of 5.5% of their gross salary, with an employer contribution of 3%.
