The South Brunswick Library, located halfway between the metropolitan hubs of NYC and
Philadelphia, is home to a diverse, growing community that values all the services the Library
provides. Our staff is dedicated to providing excellent customer service through innovative
programming, community engagement and outreach, and our Mobile Branch.
Our Library is in its final stages of a multi-million construction project to expand and repurpose our existing building. We are excited to bring new team members aboard as we build our next
chapter at the South Brunswick Public Library. Renovations include a new auditorium,
state-of-the art meeting room, Innovation Lab, and more. Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Borrower Services Supervisor manages the day-to-day operations of the Department, including scheduling, managing time off requests, resolving patron issues, and training staff.
We are seeking a strong, confident team player to join our management team as the Supervisor of Borrower Services. The ideal candidate will be customer-focused, detail-oriented, and a strong leader with the ability to supervise a large staff of library assistants, shelvers and volunteers. This role includes providing recommendations for circulation policies, assisting in the interviewing and training of new staff, providing outreach to the schools/community for library card sign-ups, and creating new ways to improve the patron experience at SBPL. As we move into the Library’s expanded spaces, the Supervisor will help reconfigure the Borrower Services upstairs public service desk and the new Returns desk in the Library Lobby for ease and efficiency.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervises the daily workflow of the Borrower Services Department
- Performs circulation duties and ensures desks are staffed
- Serves as the lead for all issues regarding library circulation and liaison to our consortium, STELLA
- Trains and mentors all Borrower Services Staff
- Serves as a role model for Borrower Services staff and encourages strong customer service and library promotion
- Completes weekly schedules, handles staff time off requests, performs annual staff evaluations
- Handles patron issues that are not resolved by front line staff
- Prepares statistical reports for Trustees, LIbrary Link on a monthly basis
- Sends weekly bills to patrons with lost items
- Participates in the recruitment and hiring of departmental staff
- Helps promote library collection through displays and informal Reader’s Advisory
- Attend STELLA Circulation Protocols meeting and communicates information to staff
- Oversees shelving and collection maintenance, including assisting with weeding and displays
- Works cooperatively with other departments to provide effective, accessible library service
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience with library circulation work and/or administrative duties with progressive levels of experience
- Strong communication skills, ability to read, write and speak English proficiently
- Some college preferred
- Competent with the use of relevant technology including Google Workspace and Microsoft products
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service
- Possession of notary license or willingness to obtain one is highly desired
- Familiarity with Polaris/Leap
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Must successfully pass a complete background check including fingerprinting

Work schedule: Full-Time, 35 hours a week, Primarily 9-5 Monday to Thursday, Friday 10-6, with Saturday rotation. Occasional need to fill in on a night shift or other shift may arise.
Salary range : $65,042-$89,064. No MLS required.
