Event Description

This session will discuss how Artificial Intelligence (particularly generative AI) and the misuse of such tools are contributing to what many are calling a “Literacy Crisis.” While AI can be a useful tool for those who are well-informed on how to use it, the average consumer is unlikely to take the necessary steps to learn how to use it correctly. This results in the “misuse” of the tool and snowballs into a general decline in cognitive function over time.

By attending this session you will get an introduction as to why people are becoming so reliant on generative AI, why they’re so willing to accept the first answer they see provided, and how we as librarians can attempt to break this cycle through informational sessions and general outreach.
