Cant-Miss Comics with Huda Fahmy, Pedro (Peter) Martin & Kirk Reedstrom

Join us for a conversation with cartoonists Huda Fahmy, Pedro Martín, and Kirk Reedstrom. All attendees will be eligible for a chance to win a sampling of prizes, including books from each author.

  • Huda Fahmy grew up in Dearborn, Michigan, and has loved comics since she was a kid. She attended the University of Michigan where she majored in English. She taught English to middle and high schoolers for eight years before she started writing about her experiences as a visibly Muslim woman in America and was encouraged by her older sister to turn these stories into comics. Huda, her husband Gehad, and their son reside in Houston, Texas.
  • Pedro Martín is the Newbery Honor Award and Pura Belpre Author and Illustrator award-winning creator of Mexikid, based off his online comic series of the same name. Pedro continues to chronicle his life growing up Mexican American in a series called Mexikid Stories (@Mexikidstories). A former Hallmark artist for 27 years and the creator of Asteroid Andy, Pedro lives with his wife in Kansas City, Missouri.
  • Kirk Reedstrom has spent most of his adult life surrounded by books. He currently works at a public library and used to be a bookseller at Blue Willow Bookshop, an independent bookstore in Houston, TX. Kirk mixes his past experience with traditional and digital mediums to develop fun-filled characters with a lot of heart and a little bit of mayhem. Kirk enjoys creating books that make people laugh.

Moderator Kristi Chadwick is Library Director for the Ballston Community Public Library (NY). She is also adjunct faculty for Simmons University School of Library & Information Science, and is a reviewer and writer for Library Journal
