Children's Librarian - Orange Public Library

Children’s Librarian Job Opening- (Full Time position) 

The Orange Public Library is seeking for an experienced and motivated professional to work with it multicultural community and expand its Children’s Services.

The ideal candidate must be friendly and outgoing, well-organized, a multi-tasker, able to manage a department, and have strong time-management skills.

Duties will include:

● Plan, schedule, promote and implement a wide calendar of programs and events for various age groups, from infant through teen.

● Conduct story time, crafts, creative play and educational sessions.

● Expand creative learning experiences with speakers, authors, and outside performers

● Provide reference and reader’s advisory services for all ages.

● Strengthen connections with local schools and provide class visits for schoolchildren.

● Contribute to the attractive appearance of the children’s area through displays.

● Prepare reading lists and relevant subject bibliographies for public distribution.

● Create and implement summer and other reading programs.

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program.
  • New Jersey Public Librarian's Certificate, or ability to obtain
  • Consideration will be given to certified, experienced educators and MLS students with youth literacy experience in another setting.
  • Excellent communication skills with a focus on educating diverse audiences about youth services.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, fostering a welcoming environment for young patrons.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms for effective engagement with the community.
  • Proficiency in developing posters and flyers to advertise programs and attract involvement.
  • Ability to select and maintain children's material.
  • Applicants must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in Spanish and English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.

This is a full-time Civil Service position with full benefits which include Dental Insurance, Health Insurance and paid time off.  You will be required to work in person on some evenings and Saturdays following a rotation schedule; and as needed.  Library is open to the public Monday thru Saturday. Beginning salary is $60,000.00 per year.  The selected candidate will be expected to report on January 2nd, 2025.
