Job Opening:
Information Assistant/Teen Services
20 hours/week
Shifts needed: Saturdays 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday 3-9 p.m., Wednesday 2-9 p.m.
The South Brunswick Library, located halfway between the metropolitan hubs of NYC and
Philadelphia, is home to a diverse, growing community that values all the services the Library
provides. Our staff is dedicated to providing excellent customer service through innovative
programming, community engagement and outreach, and our Mobile Branch.
Our Library is completing its final stages of a multi-million construction project to expand and repurpose our existing building. We are excited to bring new team members aboard as we build our next chapter at the South Brunswick Public Library. Renovations include a new auditorium,
state-of-the art meeting room, expanded teen space, Innovation Lab, and more.
We are seeking a creative, customer service-oriented individual to assist our Teen Librarian in providing services to our growing Young Adult population. The perfect candidate will enjoy implementing teen programs including in our new Innovation Lab, marketing upcoming events on social media, providing reader’s advisory services and creating eye-catching displays to promote our Young Adult collections. Knowledge of teen literature, graphic novels and manga is a plus. Must be comfortable working with groups of teens and providing one on one basic reference help in the Teen Rooms.
The Teen Information Assistant needs to be proficient with technology, especially Google and Microsoft, in order to help with various administrative tasks. Knowledge of Canva to help with promoting our teen collection and events is a definite plus.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Help plan and implement programs for middle school and high school students.
- Assist with classes and open hours for teens in the Innovation Lab.
- Provide Reader’s Advisory for Teens including fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels and Manga.
- Create displays to highlight/market the teen collection.
- Record on-going teen volunteer hours in the database on a regular basis.
- Post events on the Library’s online calendar
- Staff the teen room to provide general reference assistance and develop a rapport with the teen population
- Assist with large teen or library-wide events when necessary in various capacities
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree from a four year college.
- Ability to identify, customize and present innovative programs and instruction.
- Knowledge and proficiency of spoken and written English.
- Ability to provide outstanding customer service to both teens and adults.
- Completion of a successful background check including fingerprinting.
- Proficient with technology including Google products
Preferred skills/experience
- Experience working in a public library setting.
- Knowledge of Polaris/Leap.
- Experience working with teens.
- Knowledge of Canva
