Job Summary:
Metuchen Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and forward-thinking Technical Services Librarian to plan and coordinate cataloging, catalog maintenance, materials processing, inventory, acquisitions, and library systems. The position administers and enhances the integrated library system (ILS), supports the library's digital services and technology operations, and works collaboratively with staff, vendors, and the public.
Responsibilities:
- Plans, coordinates, and evaluates acquisitions, cataloging, catalog maintenance, and materials processing operations
- Creates and maintains MARC bibliographic, holdings, item, and authority records for print, digital, periodical, and audiovisual materials
- Classifies, labels, jackets, secures, and otherwise prepares materials for shelving and circulation
- Administers, maintains, and enhances the ILS and online public access catalog, including bibliographic and patron databases
- Supports online databases, interlibrary loan systems, digital resources, and related technology services
- Serves as the primary liaison to the STELLA consortium and to ILS and other related vendors
- Troubleshoots library system issues and works with staff and vendors to resolve them
- Maintains service statistics, develops performance measures, and submits required reports and budget requests
- Participates in collection development and maintenance activities in assigned areas
- Provides professional reference, readers' advisory, and technology assistance and instruction to patrons
- Assists in developing library policies, procedures, disaster-recovery planning, and strategic initiatives related to collections
- Participates in professional development, professional committees (NJLA, STELLA, LLNJ), and library initiatives
- Provides scheduled public-service desk coverage and assists with opening and closing the library
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program, or a New Jersey master's program in Library Science deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State University
- At least two years of technical services experience in a library
- Strong knowledge of cataloging, classification, MARC standards, materials processing, integrated library systems, and current library technologies
- Demonstrated ability to learn new software and digital resources and to use Google Workspace, Zoom, mobile devices, and library systems
- Ability to independently perform professional librarian duties, prioritize competing responsibilities, and exercise sound judgment
- Excellent customer service, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to establish positive, cooperative working relationships with patrons, coworkers, consortium partners, and vendors
- Ability to travel to off-site meetings, conferences, and training sessions

Schedule: Full-time, 35 hours per week; schedule may include evenings and weekends
