Spark Curiosity & Create Connections: Join Us as an Adult Services Library Assistant!
Are You Our Next Community Champion? You aren’t just looking to clock in and out; you are looking for a platform to make a meaningful difference. You believe that a modern public library is far more than a room full of books—it is a bustling, dynamic community ecosystem where learning meets discovery, collaboration thrives, and personal growth takes root. Whether you are helping a resident unearth a hard-to-find resource, guiding someone through new technology, or curating a program that gets neighbors talking, you bring empathy, warmth, and a proactive attitude to the table.
Does this sound like you?
Instead of checking off a rigid list of daily tasks, we care about who you are and how you engage.
To thrive in this role, you will need to bring a specific blend of heart, mindset, and skill:
● The Ultimate People Person (Core Traits): You naturally meet people where they are. You treat every interaction—whether guiding a senior through a digital portal or working through a complex patron inquiry—with deep patience, respect, and emotional intelligence.
● The Adaptable Problem Solver (Behaviors): A library is an ever-changing environment. You are energized by shifting trends, new technologies, and sudden 1 changes in the day, remaining cool-headed and welcoming no matter what comes your way.
● The Creative Program Planner (Skills): You know how to listen to what the community needs. You have the vision to design, promote, and implement adult library programs that spark intellectual curiosity, embrace tech trends, and bring people together.
● The Collaborative Teammate (Mindset): You take pride in supporting your branch and the system. You collaborate easily with your team to keep the library collections fresh, relevant, and engaging, and you’re confident stepping up to lead or handle situational responsibilities when needed.
What You’ll Bring & What to Expect
● Background: A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, combined with two years of customer service, teaching, library, or technology training experience (or an equivalent mix that shows you have what it takes). If you are bilingual in English and another language, that’s a massive superpower we’d love to leverage!
● Vitality & Movement: You thrive in a high-energy space where you aren't stuck at a desk. You are ready to roam the floor to assist library patrons, move library materials (lifting up to 35 lbs. and pushing up to 200 lbs. of loaded book carts), and comfortably navigate digital screens and physical labels.
● The Fine Print: You must have reliable transportation for local meetings/training and reside in New Jersey within one year of hire.
Our Shared Values: What Drives Us: Our core mission is simple yet powerful: Connect, Explore, Share, and Discover. When you join us, you are joining an organization built on:
● Enriching Lives: We believe knowledge and resources belong to everyone, and we work hand-in-hand to strengthen the 15-member communities we serve.
● Inclusive Spaces: We strive to cultivate a safe, welcoming, and equitable environment where every visitor feels seen and supported. ● Learning Mindset: We know the world is rapidly changing, and we show up with curiosity and adaptability to support our communities by making personalized connections and promoting lifelong learning.
