The Ridgefield Library is seeking a creative, organized, and service‑oriented PT Adult Services Library Assistant to join our team. We are looking for someone excited to help expand our already broad and robust adult programming into an even more dynamic and far‑reaching lineup that connects with a broader community.
The PT Adult Services Library Assistant will help plan, coordinate, and deliver engaging adult programs while also providing front‑line customer service, circulation support, and basic technology assistance to ensure a welcoming library experience for all.
The ideal candidate is flexible and comfortable wearing many hats. They enjoy working with adults, excel at customer service, and bring fresh ideas for innovative, community‑focused programming. Strong interpersonal, multitasking, and technical skills are essential.
This position reports directly to the Library Director and is subject to a probationary period.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing, preparing, coordinating, and executing adult programs, workshops, and events.
- Help expand our programming to reach a broader and more diverse community audience.
- Set up and break down program spaces, including arranging furniture, preparing materials, and ensuring technology is ready.
- Lead activities such as book clubs, tutorials, instructional sessions, arts & crafts, among others.
- Provide circulation services including check‑in/check‑out, issuing library cards, and assisting with patron accounts, as needed.
- Guide patrons in using digital resources, e‑books, online databases, and library technology.
- Deliver friendly, knowledgeable customer service at public service desks.
- Perform other duties as assigned or as needed.
Qualifications
- MLS / MLIS student preferred
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Proficient with technology and willingness to learn new tools.
- Ability to lift and move furniture for program setup.
- Creative, flexible, and positive attitude.
- Experience preparing and presenting programs.
Schedule: 15 hours per week, with an additional 4 hours when scheduled on Saturdays; candidates must be able to work two Saturdays per month and one evening per week. Flexibility to cover shifts is preferred.
