Making History: A History-Focused Maker Event

New Jersey Library staffers and members of NJ Historical Societies are invited to join us for a special event to help connect maker and crafter library staff with historical societies that seek to bring history to life for young people through hands-on activities!

Library staff are asked to attend this in-person event with samples of crafts, makerspace products, and other items you may have created - or hope to create - through programming, events, or makerspaces in your library. These should be items that can help bring historical education to New Jersey's youth! Be prepared to spend a few minutes showing off your project(s) to the audience and sharing details like how they were made, where you purchased materials, who was your target audience, and other relevant information. If your project can help build a connection to history, we want to see it!

Historical Society members are invited to attend for an up-close look at the types of history-connected projects that are accessible, achievable, and affordable to create with young people. Learn about how experienced library "makers" run their events, let them share their tips and tricks for successful making, and get a hands-on look at the types of projects that have been successful with young people from around the state. Already incorporating maker culture into your history education? Feel free to share your project with us as well!

The event will conclude with networking time and an opportunity to get a closer look at projects of interest. The day will provide an opportunity to not only learn about potential projects, but to build connections between libraries and Historical Societies.

This event is brought to you by LibraryLinkNJ, New Jersey Makers Day, and the League of Historical Societies of New Jersey.
